The #12 Houston Cougars are 8-2 against the Temple Owls since January of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success Sunday. Houston and Temple will face off in an American Athletic battle at 5 p.m. ET at Liacouras Center. After these two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one of them is set up to suffer a discouraging change of fortune.

The Cougars took their contest at home two weeks ago with ease, bagging an 80-47 victory over the Texas State-San Marcos Bobcats. Four players on Houston scored in the double digits: forward Josh Carlton (20), guard Kyler Edwards (14), guard Marcus Sasser (13), and guard Jamal Shead (12).

Meanwhile, the sound you heard two weeks ago was the absolute smackdown Temple laid on the Delaware State Hornets. Forward Zach Hicks took over for Temple, finishing with 35 points (a whopping 41% of their total) in addition to seven boards. Hicks' performance made up for a slower matchup against the UCF Knights three weeks ago. Hicks' points were the most he has had all season.

The Cougars are the favorite in this one, with an expected 11.5-point margin of victory. They have been consistent moneymakers against the spread when favored (8-4), so they might be worth a quick bet.

Their wins bumped Houston to 11-2 and the Owls to 7-5. With both Houston and Temple swaggering in after impressive performances, it will be interesting to see which team steps up to teach the other some humility.
