Who's Playing
Texas Southern @ No. 14 Florida
Current Records: Texas Southern 0-7; Florida 6-1
What to Know
The #14 Florida Gators will take on the Texas Southern Tigers at 6 p.m. ET Monday at Stephen C. O'Connell Center. Given that these two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
The Gators came up short against the Oklahoma Sooners last Wednesday, falling 74-67. One thing holding Florida back was the mediocre play of guard Tyree Appleby, who did not have his best game: he finished with 11 points on 2-for-12 shooting in his 30 minutes on the court.
Meanwhile, Texas Southern was expected to have a tough go of it last week, and, well, they did. They have to be aching after a bruising 87-60 defeat to the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.
Florida is the favorite in this one, with an expected 22-point margin of victory. Those burned by picking them against the spread last week might want to keep in mind that the team has not yet dropped back-to-back games against the spread this season.
Florida is now 6-1 while Texas Southern sits at 0-7. Two stats to keep an eye on: The Gators come into the contest boasting the 23rd fewest points allowed per game in college basketball at 58.3. Less enviably, the Tigers are stumbling into the matchup with the 10th fewest points per game in college basketball, having accrued only 61 on average. So the cards are definitely stacked against Texas Southern.
