DePaul forward Rashaun Stimage will be out 8-10 weeks after suffering a foot fracture during Saturday's Blue-White scrimmage, according to the DePaulia.
Stimage, a junior, said he has a “Jones fracture,” which is a broken bone at the base of the small toe — the same injury that Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant has. The injury will require surgery, which Stimage will undergo Wednesday.
Stimage, who is a transfer from the junior college Daytona State College, suffered the injury when during an inbounds play, a teammate landed on his foot diving for the ball.
“It’s just shocking, really,” Stimage said. “It really hurts because I was ready to come out strong in my first year at the university. Hopefully, I’ll come back better than ever.”
The 6-foot-8 forward said he hopes he can return in seven or eight weeks, rather than the estimated timetable of 8-10 weeks.
“It’s just overwhelming really,” Stimage said. “I’m just trying to get back on the court as soon as possible.”
Stimage was in contention for a starting spot with the Blue Demons this season. Without him in the picture, Forrest Robinson and Tommy Hamilton will likely be the starters with Greg Sequele coming off the bench.
DePaul lost three starters from a season ago, including its leading scorers Cleveland Melvin and Brandon Young. Maybe the roster turnover will be good for the Blue Demons, as Oliver Purnell has now gone 9-57 in conference during his four years at the helm of the university. However, Stimage seemed to be a big piece of that turnover, so it's unlucky that the team will have to be without him seemingly until the new year.
