Tennessee vs. Texas A&M score: Volunteers win first SEC Tournament title since 1979 over Aggies
Tennessee is one of the hottest teams in the country entering the NCAA Tournament
Tennessee won its first SEC Basketball Tournament title since 1979 on Sunday by outlasting Texas A&M 65-50 behind a stifling defensive effort that limited the Aggies to just 31% shooting. Santiago Vescovi led the Volunteers with 17 and Josiah-Jordan James added 16 for a team that has won 12 of its last 13 games entering the NCAA Tournament.
The Volunteers entered the day as a projected No. 3 seed for the Big Dance in Jerry Palm's Bracketology and made their case to be even higher by completing a wire-to-wire victory against the Aggies. Tennessee jumped out to a 14-0 lead and led 29-20 at halftime. The Aggies briefly closed within five early in the second half, but Tennessee ratcheted up the defensive intensity from there.
Texas A&M entered as a projected No. 10 seed in the NCAA Tournament, according to Palm, following an impressive three-day run over Florida on Thursday, Auburn on Friday and Arkansas on Saturday to make its case for an at-large bid. The Aggies will find out their fate during the 6 p.m. ET NCAA Tournament Selection Show on CBS (follow along LIVE here).
Tyrece Radford led Texas A&M with 13, while Henry Coleman III added 12. The Aggies were aiming for their first conference tournament title since 1987, when they were members of the Southwest Conference.
