Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Racks up three hits in win
Winn went 3-for-4 with one RBI in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Reds. Winn extended his hitting streak to 16 games with Wednesday's strong effort out of the No. 8 spot in the order. He's gone 23-for-61 (.377) with eight extra-base hits, 11 RBI and two stolen bases during the streak. Winn is up to a .308/.358/.440 slash line with two homers, seven steals, 18 RBI, 16 runs scored, 11 doubles and two triples over 49 contests this season. He's seen some looks at leadoff versus left-handed pitchers, but he remains deeper in the order for now against right-handers.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Leading off Monday
Winn will start at shortstop and bat leadoff Monday against the Reds, John Denton of MLB.com reports. With lefty Nick Lodolo due up for Cincinnati, Cardinals skipper Oliver Marmol will give the rookie another opportunity to set the table. Winn has made two other starts in the leadoff spot this season but has primarily hit in the bottom third of the order. That could change given Winn's hot hitting; he's riding a 15-game hitting streak during which he's slashing .375/.404/.604.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Homer, double in win
Winn went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and two total runs scored in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Orioles. Winn's seventh-inning solo shot ended up being the difference in the game. The shortstop is on a roll, having hit safely in his last 11 contests. During that span, he's gone 15-for-41 (.366) with two homers, seven RBI and two stolen bases. He's up to a .295/.348/.432 slash line over 157 plate appearances this season, and he's now hit leadoff against the last two southpaws the Cardinals have faced.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Not starting Sunday
Winn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. Veteran Brandon Crawford will take over at shortstop against righty Nick Pivetta, affording Winn a breather. The 22-year-old Winn has put together an eight-game hitting streak, raising his slash line to .281/.340/.383 with one homer and seven steals through 41 games this season.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Hits first homer of season
Winn went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 10-6 win over the Red Sox. Winn has done a lot of things right this season, but he didn't have a homer until he took Boston reliever Cam Booser deep in the sixth inning. The shortstop has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games, going 11-for-34 (.324) in that span. Winn is up to a .280/.343/.384 slash line with 10 RBI, 12 runs scored, seven stolen bases, six doubles and three triples through 142 plate appearances in an everyday role.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Resting Sunday
Winn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers. Winn will head to the bench after he went 4-for-11 with a stolen base while starting in each of the first three games of the series. Brandon Crawford will fill in for Winn at shortstop in the series finale.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Registers steal Friday
Winn went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Friday's 11-2 loss to the Brewers. Winn appears to be finding his swing again. He's 4-for-14 (.286) over his last five contests, although the young shortstop has still gone 20 games without a multi-hit effort after having seven of them in his first 15 contests this season. Winn is 6-for-7 on stolen base attempts and is batting .267 with a .683 OPS through 120 plate appearances on the year.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Getting day off
Winn is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets. It's a day off for Winn, who is just 4-for-28 at the dish over his last eight games. Brandon Crawford will get the start at shortstop for the Cardinals against the Mets' Jose Butto.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Snags fifth steal
Winn went 0-for-4 with a stolen base in Friday's 3-0 win over the White Sox. Winn reached on an error in the fourth inning, stole second and went to third on a wild pitch, but then got stranded. The rookie shortstop has cooled off with no multi-hit efforts over his last 14 games, going 7-for-40 (.175) with three steals and a 9:12 BB:K in that span. On the year, he's slashing .279/.354/.372 with no home runs, seven RBI, 10 runs scored and five steals, offering solid speed but little else while batting in the bottom third of the Cardinals' order.... Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Sitting for nightcap
Winn isn't in the Cardinals' lineup for the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against Detroit, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. Winn went 1-for-4 during St. Louis' Game 1 victory, and he'll get a breather to conclude Tuesday's twin bill. Brandon Crawford will fill in at shortstop and bat eighth during the nightcap.... Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Receives rest day
Winn is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Mets, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. Winn started the previous nine games but will take a seat Friday after he posted a .208/.394/.292 slash line during that stretch. Brandon Crawford will receive a start at shortstop in the series opener at New York.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Notches steal Monday
Winn went 1-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 5-3 win over the Diamondbacks. Winn has gone 3-for-13 with two walks, a double, a steal and two runs scored over his last four contests. The shortstop is in a starting role and leads the Cardinals with a .323 batting average. He's added an .824 OPS, four steals, six RBI, eight runs scored, three doubles and two triples, but he has yet to hit a home run this season. Winn should see a majority of the playing time at shortstop, with Brandon Crawford around to spell him occasionally.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Swipes bag in win
Winn went 0-for-1 with two walks, one RBI, one stolen base and one run scored in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Athletics. Winn's run of three straight multi-hit efforts was snapped, but he still found his way on base. He also delivered a game-tying sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. The 22-year-old has settled in admirably as the starting shortstop, batting .362 with an .885 OPS, three steals, six RBI, six runs scored, two doubles and two triples over 55 plate appearances. Winn has yet to hit a home run this year, but he's batting well enough to keep Brandon Crawford on the bench.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Not starting Sunday
Winn won't start Sunday against the Diamondbacks, John Denton of MLB.com reports. Winn takes a seat for the fourth time in 16 games this season, though he's off to a hot start with a .349 average, five RBI and two steals. Brandon Crawford will start at shortstop and bat ninth Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Getting day off
Winn is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Phillies, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. It's a simple day off for the rookie shortstop as the Phillies and Cardinals look to decide the series Wednesday. Brandon Crawford will fill in.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Still in line to start at shortstop
Winn has been told by the Cardinals that the shortstop job "is his to seize" even after the addition of Brandon Crawford, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. President of baseball operations John Mozeliak confirmed as much Tuesday, saying "this is Masyn's job," per Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat. Crawford was officially inked to a one-year contract Tuesday and will provide some veteran insurance at short behind Winn. However, the 21-year-old is still fully expected to break camp as the starter, barring a dreadful showing this spring. Winn slashed just .172/.230/.238 in 37 games with the Cards last season but hit .288/.359/.474 with 18 homers and 17 steals in 105 contests at Triple-A Memphis.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Lifts second homer
Winn went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Padres. Winn tied the game at 1-1 with his sixth-inning blast. The shortstop continues to struggle at the major-league level -- he's gone just 7-for-31 (.226) over his last 10 games, though that's an improvement on his .173 batting average for the season. Winn has a .474 OPS, two homers, six RBI, eight runs scored and two stolen bases through 29 contests.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Logs second steal
Winn went 0-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Reds. Winn reached on a fielder's choice and notched his second major-league steal in the fourth inning. It's been a rough adjustment to the majors for the rookie shortstop, who has gone 3-for-23 (.130) over six games in September. He's batting .156 with one home run, four RBI and six runs scored through his first 18 contests. While Winn is seeing a majority of the playing time at shortstop, Tommy Edman has occasionally filled in there as well.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Taking seat Friday
Winn is absent from the lineup for Friday's game in Cincinnati, John Denton of MLB.com reports. It will be the third day off for Winn since he was promoted back on Aug. 18. He has managed just a .430 OPS in his first 17 major-league games, although he did hit his first homer earlier this week. Tommy Edman will get a start at shortstop Friday.... See More ... See Less
