Torres went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 8-0 win over the Padres. Torres has gone 12-for-45 (.267) over his last 12 contests, adding three homers and eight RBI in that span. The second baseman started the year slow, but he's come around over the last couple of weeks while retaining a near-everyday role. For the season, he's slashing .221/.298/.318 with four homers, 15 RBI, 25 runs scored, seven doubles and four stolen bases over 219 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less

Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Moving out of slump
Torres went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored during Thursday's 5-0 win over the Twins. After enduring a 5-for-36 (.138) slump from Apr. 29 to May 11, Torres has gone 6-for-16 (.375) and has scored four runs during his last four games. On Thursday, he clubbed a pair of doubles off Joe Ryan to bring his season total to six through 187 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Swipes bag in win
Torres went 1-for-3 with a walk, one stolen base and one run scored in Wednesday's 4-0 win over the Twins. Torres' steal was his first since April 13. The second baseman has had a modest May, batting .205 (9-for-44) with two home runs and four RBI. That's a little worse than his .216 average for the season, and he's added a poor .574 OPS with four steals, two home runs, 10 RBI, 19 runs scored and four doubles through 183 plate appearances. While Torres has struggled, he remains the Yankees' near-everyday starter at the keystone.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Snaps slump with key homer
Torres went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Sunday's 10-6 win over Tampa Bay. Torres came into the contest batting .156 through 10 games in May and failed to reach base in his first three plate appearances Sunday. However, he came up big in the eighth inning, smashing a three-run shot to increase the Yankees' lead to 9-5. The long ball was just his second of the season, which is a pretty significant drop-off after he went deep 25 times in 158 contests last year.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Resting Saturday
Torres is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Rays, Erik Boland of Newsday reports. Torres will be held out of the lineup for the first time since April 20 against Tampa Bay, though he did pinch hit in that contest. Torres is 5-for-30 with five walks and a solo home run in May, and he is coming off an 0-for-4 showing with one strikeout in Friday's win. Oswaldo Cabrera will shift to second base Saturday while Jon Berti gets the start at third.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Cranks first home run
Torres went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Thursday's 7-2 loss to the Orioles. Torres led off the sixth inning with a 418-foot shot to center field off Keegan Akin, cutting the Yankees' deficit to 7-2. While it didn't ultimately impact the final score, the home run was certainly a weight off of Torres' shoulders -- he'd gone 32 games without a long ball to start the campaign, a homerless streak of 53 regular-season games if you go back to Torres' last home run Sept. 7. The 27-year-old second baseman is now slashing a disappointing .218/.295/.274 to open the year with 15 runs scored, seven RBI and three stolen bases.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Gets Saturday off
Torres isn't in the Yankees' lineup for Saturday's game against the Rays. Torres will get a chance to clear his head after going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts during Friday's series opener. While he rests, Jahmai Jones will fill in at the keystone and bat eighth.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Swipes third bag
Torres went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base in Saturday's win over Cleveland in Game 2 of the doubleheader. He also drew a walk. Torres came around to score New York's third run of the game on an Anthony Volpe single after drawing a walk and then stealing second to open the fourth inning. The second baseman would then come around to score a second time in the fifth, marking just the second time this season in which he's scored two runs in a game. Torres has now hit safely in back-to-back contests, though he's still batting just .222 in April with two RBI, two stolen bases and four runs scored.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Slides down to No. 6 spot
Torres will start at second base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game versus the Marlins. He had been in the leadoff spot in each of his first 12 starts this season, but Anthony Volpe will be at the top of the batting order Wednesday. Torres is slashing just .200/.281/.240 this season.... Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Productive in win
Torres went 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in New York's win over Toronto on Saturday. He also walked and stole a base. Torres extended New York's lead with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second and later swiped a bag before scoring on a single from Juan Soto in the sixth. The second baseman also added a double late and has now hit safely in three straight. After batting just .133 through four games in March, Torres is now batting .300 in April with two RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Nabs first steal
Torres went 1-for-4 with a walk, two runs and a stolen base in Sunday's 4-3 victory versus the Astros. Torres used his legs to help generate the game-winning run, following a two-out, ninth-inning single with a swipe of second base before sprinting home on a Juan Soto single to left field. The theft was Torres' first of the campaign as he seeks to reach double-digit steals for the third straight year. The second baseman is off to a slow start to the campaign otherwise, however, slashing just .133/.316/.133 without an extra-base hit through 19 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Leading off Saturday
Torres will start at second base and lead off Saturday against the Astros. A pitch off his right thumb forced Torres from Friday's game, but X-rays were negative and it appears the second baseman won't even miss a start as a result of the injury. Torres, who is 0-for-7 with a walk and a run scored through two games this season, appears set to handle primary leadoff duties in the absence of DJ LeMahieu (foot), who was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday.... Yankees' Gleyber Torres: X-rays negative
X-rays on Torres' right thumb came back negative Friday, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports. Torres took a pitch off his right thumb in the top of the seventh inning of Friday's contest and initially remained in the game to run around the bases. However, he requested to be removed during the bottom of the seventh due to concerns over his ability to throw the ball. It seems the 27-year-old second baseman was able to escape without any serious damage to his thumb, but he may still sit out a game or two to recover.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Exits after HBP
Torres was removed from Friday's game against the Astros after getting hit in the right hand by a pitch, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports. Torres initially remained in the game to run the bases, but his hand was clearly still bothering him while he was on the basepaths, and he was eventually replaced on defense by Jahmai Jones. The Yankees will surely take a closer look at Torres' hand in the clubhouse, and more details on his status should come after Friday's contest.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Will bat leadoff Opening Day
Manager Aaron Boone said Torres will serve as the Yankees' leadoff hitter in Thursday's season opener against the Astros, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. The Yankees are facing a southpaw (Framber Valdez) in the season opener, but Torres looks like he could be the team's top choice to set the table against both left- and right-handed pitching to begin the season while DJ LeMahieu (wrist) is on the shelf. The leadoff assignment is a nice little boost for Torres' fantasy prospects, even if it might be a relatively short run atop the lineup. He had a terrific spring, sporting a 1.078 OPS with three home runs and two stolen bases.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Interested in contract extension
Torres said Wednesday that he's interested in signing a long-term contract extension with the Yankees, David Lennon of Newsday reports. However, Torres added that he and his representation have yet to engage in negotiations with the club regarding a long-term deal, confirming what general manager Brian Cashman said last week. Torres is set to earn $14.2 million in 2024 in his final year under contract before reaching free agency next offseason. While it does not appear the Yankees are eager to lock him up to an extension, Torres' market figures to be fairly robust. He's posted a 120 wRC+ over the last two seasons and will be only 28 heading into free agency.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Gleyber Torres: No contract extension talks
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Thursday that he has not had any contract extension talks with Torres' representation, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. Cashman added that Torres is the team's second baseman "for this season" in what will be his final year before reaching free agency next winter. It's possible the two sides will eventually look into a long-term deal down the line, but that doesn't appear to be on the horizon. Torres slashed .273/.347/.453 with 25 home runs for the Yanks in 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Avoids arbitration with Yankees
Torres signed a one-year, $14.2 million contract with the Yankees on Thursday to avoid arbitration, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. Torres has seen his power bounce back in the last couple seasons, including a .180 ISO across 672 plate appearances in 2023. He also chipped in 13 stolen bases while hitting .273, giving him a well-rounded profile -- even if he doesn't stand out in one particular area. Torres should start consistently at second base for the Yankees this season.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Resting in finale
Torres is not in Sunday's lineup against the Royals. Torres, who put together his best season since his juiced-ball inflated 2019 campaign, will make way for some less accomplished infielders in the final game of the season. He hit .273 with 25 home runs and 13 steals in 158 games.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Swats 24th homer
Torres went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 6-1 win over the Astros. Torres missed two games with lower-back tightness. He was the only Yankee with multiple hits in this contest. After batting .327 with seven homers over 28 games in August, the second baseman is in a position to end 2023 on a high note. He's at a .272/.340/.465 slash line, 24 long balls, 58 RBI, 75 runs scored and 13 stolen bases through 134 contests this year.... See More ... See Less
