Player Outlook
Zachary Neto began the season with Double-A Rocket City but was soon promoted to the majors. After a slow start, he raised his OPS to .769 but was placed on the IL in mid-June with a left oblique strain. Neto returned after the All-Star break, posting a .566 OPS over the next three weeks. Neto revisited the IL, this time with back stiffness. He came back in early September but continued to struggle with a .547 OPS over the last 17 games of the season. Neto possesses below average power with enough speed to generate double-digit stolen bases; his primary asset is getting on base. In part because he hit more fly balls than he did in the minors, Neto's .272 BABIP was low. The expectation is for it to increase as Neto gets more acclimated to major league pitching. Even so, Neto has limited mixed league appeal, though he could be more useful if his on-base skills warrant one of the top-two spots in the Angels lineup.

Neto said Friday that MRI results on his right elbow showed inflammation, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Registerreports. Neto had to exit Wednesday's game against Houston after feeling soreness in his elbow after a throw to first base, though it appears he managed to avoid a significant injury. He will attempt to test his elbow by throwing before Friday's game versus Cleveland, though he has already been left out of the Halos' starting lineup. Kyren Paris will get the nod at shortstop instead while batting ninth.

The Angels labeled his injury as right elbow soreness, but more clarity on the severity of the injury should be known once his tests are completed. For what it's worth, Neto said the Angels' training staff told him that his injury doesn't appear to be serious.

He's progressed to participating in all on-field activities except hitting during warmups, though he's been taking swings in an indoor batting cage. Nevin indicated that Neto is pain-free, and as long as his upcoming rehab assignment goes off without a hitch, the rookie shortstop should be able to return to the major-league club in time to log several more weeks of action before the end of the regular season.
