Siri is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Athletics. Siri had manned center field for each of the previous three contests for the Rays, but he will yield to Jonny DeLuca in this one. The 28-year-old Siri sports just a .531 OPS and 37.2 percent strikeout rate this season.... See More ... See Less

Rays' Jose Siri: Picking up playing time sans Lowe
Siri will start in center field and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Royals, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Siri will draw his third straight start in center field and could end up re-emerging as the Rays' preferred option at the position after Josh Lowe (oblique) was placed on the injured list Saturday. Jonny DeLuca and Richie Palacios could still present threats to Siri's playing time in the outfield, but it'll be Palacios who finds himself as the odd man out of the starting nine Sunday.... Rays' Jose Siri: Sitting out Wednesday
Siri is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox. Siri has now started just two of the last six games as his playing time continues to dwindle. The Rays are going with Josh Lowe in center field Wednesday, while Richie Palacios will patrol right.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jose Siri: Not in Sunday's lineup
Siri is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays. Siri started three of the previous four games and will head to the bench after going 2-for-9 with a walk, an RBI, two runs and four strikeouts. Jonny DeLuca will start in center field and bat seventh in Sunday's series finale.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jose Siri: Regaining playing time in CF
Siri will start in center field and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Red Sox. Siri has now started in four of the Rays' last five games and may have taken back primary duties in center field from Jonny DeLuca. Though Siri brings good defense in center field, his hold on a regular gig may still be tenuous, as he's provided little production at the plate this season (.244 wOBA, 60 wRC+ in 120 plate appearances).... Rays' Jose Siri: Pops grand slam
Siri went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in Sunday's 10-6 loss to the Yankees. Siri has been in and out of the Rays' lineup since both Jonny DeLuca and Josh Lowe have been activated from the injured list. While Siri has started five of the team's last eight games, the majority of his playing time moving forward is likely to come against lefties in favor of the lefty-hitting Lowe. He slugged a timely home run Sunday, though that was his first hit across 17 plate appearances in May.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jose Siri: Ceding center field work
Siri is out of the lineup Friday against the Yankees. Siri will be on the bench for the third time in the last four games, as Jonny DeLuca continues to garner more action in center field. Siri is batting 2-for-17 (.117) since April 27.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jose Siri: Sitting again
Siri is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the White Sox. Siri will come off the bench again Tuesday, marking his second straight game out of the starting lineup. He's ceded center field duties to Jonny DeLuca in both contests, a trend that could continue if DeLuca keeps outperforming Siri at the plate.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jose Siri: Hitless in return
Siri (thigh) went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts during Saturday's 3-1 win against the Mets. The 28-year-old was unavailable the previous two games while serving a suspension but was back in center field Saturday for the Rays. The thigh injury Siri suffered on a hit-by-pitch Tuesday also no longer seems to be a concern. He's back in center field for Sunday's series finale, batting ninth.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jose Siri: Begins serving suspension Wednesday
Siri (thigh) had his three-game suspension reduced to two games following an appeal and began serving the ban in Wednesday's 7-1 loss to the Brewers, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Siri was handed the suspension as a result of his role in Tuesday's bench-clearing brawl with the Brewers. He ended up being held out of the lineup Wednesday with a sore left thigh, and that game will count toward his time served for the suspension. He'll serve the final game of his suspension Friday against the Mets, but he should be ready to play Saturday, assuming the thigh issue isn't still presenting complications for him.... See More ... Rays' Jose Siri: Out Wednesday with thigh soreness
Manager Kevin Cash said that Siri is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Brewers due to left thigh soreness, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Siri went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and an additional run scored before being ejected from the game in the eighth inning, when he and Brewers reliever Abner Uribe exchanged punches in a benches-clearing brawl. Cash noted that Siri's thigh soreness wasn't a result of the fight but rather from being hit by a pitch in the sixth inning, though he was initially able to stay in the game and made one more plate appearance prior to his ejection. With a team off day on tap Thursday, the Rays are seemingly hopeful that Siri will be ready to go for this weekend's series versus the Mets, if he doesn't face a suspension from the league for throwing punches at Uribe.... Rays' Jose Siri: Scores twice in loss
Siri went 1-for-2 with an RBI, two runs scored and was hit by a pitch during Tuesday's loss to the Brewers. Siri homered off Freddy Peralta in the third inning to get the Rays on the scoreboard and was hit by a pitch during his next at-bat in the fifth frame, resulting in Peralta's ejection. He came around to score in the fifth, but was later ejected himself after getting into a fight with Brewers reliever Abner Uribe in the eighth inning. Despite being the most productive member of the Rays' lineup Tuesday, Siri is still slashing just .186/.276/.302 and has struck out in 41 of his 86 at-bats this season, giving him extremely little fantasy value even in the deepest of leagues.... Rays' Jose Siri: One hit in return to lineup
Siri went 1-for-4 with an RBI on Friday against the White Sox. Siri has been in and out of the lineup since Sunday while dealing with kidney stones. Per MLB.com, he had a procedure to resolve the issue and is no longer expected to be affected. Siri's performance at the plate is a different issue, as he's currently striking out at a 43.8 percent clip and could lose playing time with the imminent return of Josh Lowe (oblique).... Rays' Jose Siri: Hits bench for second straight
Siri is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Siri missed time over the weekend after he was in considerable pain due to a kidney stone, but he rejoined the lineup for Monday's 7-1 loss to Detroit, starting in center field while going 0-for-3 with three strikeouts. According to Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun, Siri still hadn't passed the kidney stone as of Monday, so the Rays could be electing to limit him out of an abundance of caution while he's still dealing with some bodily discomfort. Though he's out of the lineup for a second straight day, Siri should still be available off the bench. He entered Tuesday's 4-2 loss as a late-inning defensive replacement and struck out in his lone plate appearance.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jose Siri: Returns to lineup Monday
Siri (illness) will start in center field and bat eighth in Monday's game versus the White Sox. Siri didn't start two of the previous three contests due to kidney stones, but his presence in the lineup Monday suggests that the medical issue has been resolved. The 27-year-old outfielder returns to action Monday having gone just 1-for-23 with 12 strikeouts over his last seven games.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jose Siri: Sitting Sunday
Siri is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Siri started the first 20 games of the season but finds himself on the bench Sunday for the second time in Tampa Bay's past three games. He's 0-for-15 over his past five contests and has a .578 OPS for the season. Randy Arozarena will shift to center field while Richie Palacios and Amed Rosario start in left and right, respectively.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jose Siri: Striking out at prolific rate
Siri went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts Tuesday against the Angels. Siri stated that he wanted to be more aggressive on the basepaths this season, and he began the year by swiping six bags across his first nine games. However, that production has slowed considerably since, as he has attempted only one stolen base in his last nine contests while striking out 48.5 percent of the time. For the season, Siri has a 40.5 percent strikeout rate, which could create playing-time concerns once Josh Lowe (oblique) and Jonny DeLuca (hand) return.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jose Siri: Swipes fourth bag Friday
Siri went 0-for-2 with three walks, a run scored and a stolen base in Friday's 10-7 loss to the Rockies. It was an impressive display of patience from Siri, who had just a 5.5 percent walk rate in 2023. The 28-year-old outfielder has started every game for the Rays so far in center field due to his elite defense, but he's added some fantasy value with his bat as well with a homer, four steals, two RBI, four runs and a .375 OBP. He's never stolen more than 14 bases in a big-league season, but if he keeps getting on base at an elevated rate, he'll have plenty of opportunity to shatter that mark.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jose Siri: Swipes two bags against Toronto
Siri went 1-for-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases in Friday's 8-2 win over the Blue Jays. After leading off the sixth inning with a single, the 28-year-old center fielder promptly stole second and third before coming home on a Jose Caballero groundout. Siri only stole 12 bases on 15 attempts over 101 games last season but he's already 3-for-3 to kick off 2024, and his 98th percentile sprint speed gives him sky-high upside in the category if he gets on base often enough to use it.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jose Siri: Set to handle heavy workload
Siri will handle a heavy workload in center field to begin the season with both Jonny DeLuca (hand) and Josh Lowe (oblique) sidelined, Kristi Ackert of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Siri was already expected to start in center field, but DeLuca and Lowe were his primary backups at the position. With both sidelined, he should be in line for near-everyday at-bats. Siri has stated this spring that his goal is to be more aggressive on the basepaths, though he'll need to improve on his career .273 on-base percentage to provide standout production.... See More ...
