Player Outlook
Eloy Jimenez missed three weeks in May due to an appendectomy but otherwise stayed mostly healthy in 2023, and his 120 games played is the most since his rookie campaign. Sitting out 42 games is still significant but marks a major improvement from the previous two years, when he appeared in a combined 139 contests. He still missed some time here and there with calf and groin issues, and his .272/.317/.441 slash line was a notable drop from his .295/.358/.500 line in 2022. Jimenez totaled 18 homers, 64 RBI and 50 runs last season, while his .169 ISO was the worst mark of his MLB career. Potential versus durability continues to be the theme for Jimenez, with durability concerns unfortunately winning out to this point. That seems unlikely to change in 2024, though he would be an incredible value for fantasy managers on the off chance he's finally able to play a full season.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: To miss at least one month

White Sox GM Chris Getz said Thursday that Jimenez (hamstring) is expected to miss around a month, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. Jimenez was placed on the injured list Wednesday with a hamstring but no exact timeline for his return was disclosed. After missing two weeks to start April with a similar issue, Jimenez will face a longer absence this time around.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Due for extended absence

Manager Pedro Grifol didn't have a specific timeline Thursday for Jimenez's (hamstring) return, but the skipper said it would be an extended absence, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports. Grifol guessed the absence would be a little shorter than that of Luis Robert, who has been sidelined the past seven weeks by a hip issue. Jimenez's injury occurred when he tweaked the hamstring while running the bases during Tuesday's game in Toronto, and he was placed on the injured list a day later after being diagnosed with a strain.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Heads to IL with strained hamstring

The White Sox placed Jimenez on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a left hamstring strain. Jimenez tweaked the hamstring while running the bases in Tuesday's game in Toronto. The severity of the strain isn't yet known, so it's unclear how much time the designated hitter might miss. Soft-tissue injuries continue to plague Jimenez, who also missed time with an adductor strain earlier this season.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Exits with hamstring injury

Jimenez was removed from Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays with a left hamstring strain. Jimenez appeared to be limping after scoring from second base during the fifth inning of Tuesday's contest, and Gavin Sheets later replaced him as Chicago's DH during the seventh. The severity of Jimenez's injury remains unclear, but the White Sox will take a closer look at him and should offer more information on his status after the game.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Swipes third bag

Jimenez went 1-for-4 with a stolen base Sunday against the Yankees. Jimenez had a hit in all three games of the team's weekend series, but none went for extra bases, and he also didn't record any RBI or runs. However, he did steal his third base of the season Sunday and his second in his last four games. It's unclear what has led to his sudden aggressiveness on the basepaths, as he had never attempted a stolen base across the first five seasons of his career.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Slugs fifth homer

Jimenez went 3-for-7 with a walk, a double and a solo home run across both games of Tuesday's doubleheader split with the Nationals. The 27-year-old slugger took Trevor Williams deep in the second inning of the matinee, the first homer the Washington right-hander has served up in 2024. Jimenez could be heating up after a quiet start to the season -- over the last seven games, he's gone 7-for-27 (.259) with three doubles and a homer. Tuesday's RBI was his first since May 5, though, and through 30 contests he's slashing just .221/.276/.389 with five home runs and 12 RBI.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Goes deep in win

Jimenez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Cardinals. Jimenez entered Sunday's matchup without a home run in his last six contests, but he was able to snap that streak with a solo shot, launching his fourth homer of the year in the top of the seventh inning off reliever Giovanny Gallegos. The long ball gave the team a 2-1 lead, and the right-hander has now recorded at least one hit in seven of his last nine games, batting .270 with two home runs, five RBI and six runs scored over that stretch.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Receiving rest day

Jimenez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins. Jimenez's absence from the lineup looks to be a matter of getting some rest for the day game after a night game. He had started in 14 consecutive games since returning from the injured list in mid-April and slashed .255/.328/.436 with three home runs and a stolen base over that span. Robbie Grossman will fill in for Jimenez on Wednesday as Chicago's designated hitter.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Stays hot against Tampa Bay

Jimenez went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Rays. Jimenez was able to single and then come around to score on an RBI single by Robbie Grossman in the bottom of the fourth. He later added two more base knocks in the contest, notching his second straight multi-hit performance and his fourth in the last nine games. Over that stretch, Jimenez has batted .351 with three home runs, eight RBI, seven runs scored, three walks and a stolen base over 37 at-bats.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Homers during win

Jimenez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk during Friday's win over the Rays. Jimenez's two-run blast gave Chicago a 7-2 lead in the seventh inning, contributing to an offensive showing that has not been typical of the White Sox so far this season. The 27-year-old has now homered twice in four games and is slashing .286/.355/.607 with eight RBI and five runs scored over his last seven contests.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Belts three-run homer

Jimenez went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run, a stolen base and a second run scored during Tuesday's loss to the Twins. Jimenez's fourth-inning shot flipped the score from 1-0 to 3-1, and he came around to score after drawing a walk in the eighth to make it a 5-2 game. The White Sox ultimately were unable to come away with the win Tuesday, but the 27-year-old's offensive outburst propelled him up to a .795 OPS in eight games since returning from the injured list April 15.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: First RBI of season

Jimenez went 2-for-5 with an RBI on Saturday against the Phillies. Jimenez entered Saturday's game having gone 0-for-10 with three strikeouts and three walks since being activated from the injured list Monday. He delivered a pair of singles against the Phillies, with the latter driving in a run during a ninth-inning rally to mark his first RBI of the campaign. Jimenez is off to a miserable start through 29 plate appearances this season, as he has yet to record an extra-base hit and has only one run scored while hitting .154.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Earns three walks across twin bill

Jimenez went 0-for-5 with three walks and a run scored across both games of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Royals. Jimenez was in the lineup for the first time since being activated from the injured list, and he served as the designated hitter in both contests while batting cleanup. It's also possible that Jimenez will see time in the outfield, though the team may be cautious with his usage given his lengthy injury history.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Could play some outfield

White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Monday that Jimenez, who was activated from the injured list earlier in the day, could be used some in the outfield, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports. Gavin Sheets filled in admirably as the designated hitter while Jimenez was sidelined and is also an option -- and probably a likelier one -- to see action in the outfield as the team seeks to keep both bats in the lineup. All three of Jimenez's starts this season came at DH before he got hurt, and only 14 of his 118 starts in 2023 were in the outfield. It's possible he could wind up playing the outfield enough to pick up eligibility there in fantasy, but the White Sox also want to keep him healthy and having Jimenez play the field heightens that risk.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Activated from injured list

Jimenez (adductor) was activated from the 10-day injured list by the White Sox on Monday. Jimenez is not in Monday's lineup against the Royals but will be available off the bench. He hasn't played since March 31 because of a left adductor strain but was cleared to return after ramping up his running over the weekend. Gavin Sheets is getting another start at designated hitter Monday.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Ramping up running intensity

Jimenez (adductor) will ramp up his running intensity this week, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports. It's good that Jimenez is upping his activity level, but it would appear he's not going to return this weekend as had been hoped. Jimenez has been sidelined for the past week with a left adductor strain. Gavin Sheets has held down designated hitter duties for the Pale Hose since Jimenez was injured.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Could return during weekend series

Jimenez (thigh) is progressing in his recovery and could return during the White Sox's weekend series against the Reds, MLB.com reports. Manager Pedro Grifol said that Jimenez is feeling better each day, but he declined to give a specific return date. As expected, the priority for the team is to avoid any setbacks or aggravation of the injury. Given the rash of injuries the White Sox have faced early on this season, as well as his own history of issues, the team may take a cautious approach with Jimenez.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Placed on injured list

Jimenez was placed on the 10-day injured list by the White Sox on Friday with a left adductor strain, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Jimenez suffered the injury Sunday, but the White Sox had kept him on the active roster in hopes that he could be ready to play this weekend. Clearly, that didn't happen, though Jimenez will be eligible to return in a week since the roster move is retroactive to Tuesday. Gavin Sheets will continue to fill in at designated hitter against righties, and Robbie Grossman has assumed Jimenez's roster spot.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Missing fourth straight day

Jimenez (adductor) isn't in the White Sox's lineup for Thursday's game against Kansas City. Manager Pedro Grifol previously stated that Jimenez has avoided a move to the IL up to this point because there is still a possibility that he could play against the Royals over the weekend. However, with Jimenez still out for the series opener, a trip to the injured list is looking increasingly likely. Gavin Sheets will continue filling in for Jimenez as Chicago's DH and cleanup hitter.

  • White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Could do some running Wednesday

White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said that Jimenez (adductor) could try to do some running Wednesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Jimenez is missing a third straight start Wednesday against Atlanta after he suffered a left adductor injury Sunday. Grifol noted that the team hasn't made a roster move with Jimenez yet because there's a "possibility" the designated hitter could be ready to play this weekend in Kansas City. While Jimenez seems to have shown improvement since suffering the injury Sunday, Grifol seems less optimistic now about the slugger avoiding the IL than he did earlier this week. Gavin Sheets has been filling in at DH with Jimenez sidelined.
