Mexico remained in first place in the hexagonal round of qualifying in CONCACAF on Thursday with a convincing 3-0 win over Honduras at Azteca. Ahead of Sunday's match at home against the United States, Mexico put the match away midway through the second half.

That result moves Mexico to 13 points with five matches to go in qualifying, and a win on Sunday would all but clinch a spot in the next World Cup for El Tri.
