After a night of utter disappointment, Missy Franklin showed she knows how to persevere.

Franklin finished second in the 200m freestyle finals Wednesday night at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Omaha to earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic team -- nearly 24 hours after she had hoped.

A five-time Olympic medalist, Franklin finished seventh Tuesday night in the 100m backstroke -- an event in which she won Olympic gold in London in 2012.

But she bounced back to finish with a time of 1:56.18 on Wednesday night and punch her ticket to Rio.

As expected, Katie Ledecky won the race with a time of 1:54.88. Both she and Franklin also made the 4x200m freestyle relay teams.

Franklin will look to qualify in two more events -- the 100m freestyle on Friday and the 200m backstroke, an event in which she holds the world record, on Saturday.
