Top Red Wings News

  • Red Wings' David Perron: Picks up apple in loss

Perron recorded an assist to complement a season-high six shots on goal in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Penguins.

Perron put a great deal of pressure on former Red Wings goalie Alex Nedeljkovic, but the lone helper was all the veteran winger could muster as the Wings lost for the eighth time in 10 games. While Perron may be past his prime, the 17-year veteran still is providing a relatively safe floor in fantasy hockey, adding 13 goals, 22 assists and 13 power-play points through 62 games.

  • Red Wings' Ben Chiarot: Registers helper in defeat

Chiarot recorded an assist and two blocked shots in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Penguins.

Chiarot provided the secondary helper on the first of two goals for burgeoning winger Lucas Raymond. As a second-pairing defenseman who rarely works on the power play, Chiarot isn't the type of player that fantasy managers generally covet. However, the veteran is mixing it up a bit, pairing 17 points (five goals, 12 assists) with 130 hits and 135 blocked shots through 63 games.

  • Red Wings' Jeff Petry: Manages helper in loss

Petry recorded an assist in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Penguins.

This was the first point in eight games for Petry, who has struggled with a minus-9 rating over that span. He's been physical with 18 hits and 23 blocked shots amid the slump, but the Wings need more out of pretty much everyone, as they are 2-10-0 over their last 12 games. For the season, Petry has two goals, 17 assists, 112 hits and 114 blocked shots in 59 games, which aren't numbers that jump off the page.

  • Red Wings' Lucas Raymond: Lights lamp twice in loss

Raymond collected two goals on three shots in a 6-3 loss to Pittsburgh on Sunday.

The Red Wings were down for the majority of the contest but Raymond fought hard for the comeback, scoring his 21st and 22nd goals of the season, including one on the power play to bring them within two scores late in the game. The 21-year-old winger added a blocked shot, two PIM, three shots on net and a plus-1 rating in 20:14 of ice time. Raymond is a young, talented winger who is producing points even with the Red Wings scuffling of late. He's on a four-game point streak, with five goals and a helper over that span. The Red Wings host Columbus on Tuesday.

  • Red Wings' Alex Lyon: Can't stop Penguins

Lyon gave up five goals on 37 shots in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Penguins. The sixth goal was an empty-netter.

It was another tough night for Lyon as he gave up goals early and often, allowing four goals before the midway mark of the second period. Each time the Red Wings answered with a goal of their own, Lyon allowed one soon after. The loss adds to his recent struggles, as he's allowed three or more goals in his last eight starts and taken seven consecutive regulation losses. It's too early to write Lyon off completely, but his starting role isn't guaranteed, as the Red Wings will likely ride the hot hand in net down the stretch with every point critical to their playoff hopes.

  • Red Wings' Alex Lyon: Starting in Pittsburgh

Lyon will guard the road goal Sunday versus Pittsburgh, according to Penguins play-by-play announcer Josh Getzoff.

Lyon has gone 0-6-0 over his past six outings, allowing 24 goals on 166 shots during that span. He has posted a record of 18-14-2 this campaign with a 3.03 GAA and a .904 save percentage through 34 appearances. The Penguins rank 25th in the league this season with 2.86 goals per game.

  • Red Wings' Robby Fabbri: Adds helper as Wings snap skid

Fabbri recorded an assist in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Sabres.

Fabbri had only 10 minutes of ice time on the way to the Wings snapping a seven-game losing streak, but he's hanging onto a spot on the No. 1 power play while Dylan Larkin tends to a lower-body injury. Fabbri's latest apple transpired at even strength, with the 28-year-old winger now at 12 assists and 28 total points through 53 games. Fabbri staying healthy is always the focus when analyzing his fantasy prospects, but he's worked past relatively minor injuries to his lower body and face this campaign to keep him from falling off the map completely in deep leagues.

  • Red Wings' Michael Rasmussen: Ties career high in points

Rasmussen earned an assist in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Sabres.

Rasmussen put pen to paper on a four-year, $12.8 million contract extension in February, more than doubling the AAV of his previous deal with the Red Wings. Thanks to his helper from Saturday's victory, Rasmussen has tied his 2022-23 output of 29 points, and he needs just one more goal or assist for a new career high. Unfortunately, the bar is not set very high for Rasmussen in fantasy hockey, as his power-play services are no longer required, plus the team is sending him to the ice in the defensive zone 62.3 percent of the time. He's already blocked 69 shots and committed to 119 hits as another clear indication of where his value lies.

  • Red Wings' Daniel Sprong: Goes top shelf in win

Sprong found the back of the net in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Sabres.

Sprong fired a snapshot from a sharp angle, with the puck traveling between Tyson Jost's legs and landing top shelf for Detroit's third goal of the contest. We wouldn't put too much stock in Sprong's status as a fourth-liner, as he is one of five Red Wings with 40 points or more this season. The 27-year-old is precisely at that level based on 17 goals and 23 assists through 66 games. But let's not forget that he has also been a factor on the power play, adding three goals and nine assists to the season ledger.

  • Red Wings' Christian Fischer: Adds goal to highlight reel

Fischer went five-hole on his lone tally in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Sabres.

Fischer tied the game at 5:35 in the second period as he slid to the ice but still beat Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen for a highlight-reel goal at the doorstep. This was just the third goal and 15th point of the season for Fischer, but it had huge implications for a Red Wings team that snapped a seven-game losing streak to help keep its playoff hopes alive. As of Saturday, the Original Six club has a 28.2 percent chance of securing a playoff berth.

  • Red Wings' Shayne Gostisbehere: Unselfish play continues

Gostisbehere recorded an assist in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Sabres.

Detroit just put an end to a seven-game losing streak, but nobody should be pointing fingers at Gostisbehere since he earned a goal and five assists over that stretch. The 30-year-old blueliner has 10 goals and 34 assists through 66 games, including a whopping 24 points on the power play. With the Red Wings' chances for a playoff berth at 28.2 percent, they're going to need sustained production from their premier blueliners like Gostisbehere and 2022 Calder Trophy winner Moritz Seider, who also pitched in a helper during the latest contest.

  • Red Wings' Moritz Seider: Checks many boxes in win

Seider picked up an assist, two blocked shots and four hits in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Sabres.

Seider had just two points in a single contest during the Red Wings' seven-game losing streak that mercifully ended in this latest home game against the Sabres. As a top-pairing defenseman assigned to the No. 1 power play, Seider is heavily relied upon to create chances in the attacking zone. However, the Wings have been lost with Dylan Larkin rehabbing a lower-body injury, so the offensive output is likely to be hit-or-miss for Seider until the team gets its captain back. Seider has seven goals, 28 assists, 155 hits and 161 blocked shots this season, but it's only natural for people to measure the German's recent efforts against the backdrop of his Calder Trophy-winning 2021-22 campaign.

  • Red Wings' Patrick Kane: Finds twine to snap team skid

Kane supplied the game-winning goal in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Sabres.

J.T. Compher made a sprawling pass at the top of the crease to give Kane a wide-open look at the net, culminating in a 2-1 Red Wings advantage with 2:20 remaining in the second period. The Wings held on to snap a seven-game losing streak, while Kane is heating up based on a three-game point streak comprised of a goal and two helpers. Detroit is 1-6-0 with Dylan Larkin (lower body) out of commission, so all eyes are on Kane, who is averaging 1.05 points per game in his 17-year career, to start becoming a major factor in team wins. He's added 14 goals, 20 assists and 11 power-play points through 36 games this season.

  • Red Wings' J.T. Compher: Sneaks in assist

Compher recorded an assist in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Sabres.

Compher, who now has 22 assists and 38 total points through 62 games, set up a go-ahead goal to Patrick Kane in the second period by diving toward the puck and narrowly missing defenders with his pass. The Red Wings desperately need Compher to play at a high level on the top line, as captain Dylan Larkin (lower body) is without a definitive timeline for his return.

  • Red Wings' Lucas Raymond: Collects goal No. 20

Raymond scored his 20th goal of the season in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Sabres.

His empty-net tally put the finishing touches on a big win for the Red Wings against one of the teams chasing them for a wild-card spot. Raymond has found the back of the net in three straight games, and the surge has given him 20 goals on the campaign, the second time in his three NHL seasons he's reached that mark. The 21-year-old winger is also two points away from tying the career-high 57 he racked up as a rookie.

  • Red Wings' Andrew Copp: Two helpers in Saturday's win

Copp picked up two assists in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Sabres.

It's the 29-year-old center's first multi-point performance since Nov. 29. Copp led all Detroit forwards in even-strength ice time during the afternoon contest at 17:16, but his third-line assignment typically doesn't afford him that kind of workload. Over the course of his current 18-game goal drought, he's managed to produce just six assists, but he is up to 30 points (10 goals, 20 helpers) on the season -- the fourth straight season he's reached that mark.

  • Red Wings' James Reimer: Sharp in Saturday's win

Reimer made 25 saves in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Sabres.

Tage Thompson beat Reimer on a Buffalo power play midway through the first period, but the Detroit netminder shut the door the rest of the way. The 36-year-old Reimer picked up his first win since Feb. 25 to even his record at 7-7-2 on the season, and in six outings since the All-Star break, he has delivered a .931 save percentage. With Alex Lyon buckling under a heavy workload and losing six straight starts, Reimer could be in the crease more often down the stretch as Detroit tries to hang onto a wild-card spot.
