Spence has been everywhere from the first pairing to the press box over the Kings' first eight games. The defenseman had a strong all-around game Thursday, which included his first goal of the season to open the scoring 4:31 into the first period. He's added three helpers, six shots on net, 12 blocks, nine hits, six PIM and a plus-1 rating over seven appearances. The 23-year-old was listed on the top pairing Thursday and could be a depth option in fantasy if he can stay in that role.

Los Angeles head coach Jim Hiller cited Spence's shaky start to the season as the reason for Wednesday's breather, per Zak Dooley of LA Kings Insider. After logging just 13:31 TOI in the game prior to being scratched, Spence was on ice for 23:03 on Thursday.

The big question on the Kings' blue line was who would step up in the absence of Drew Doughty (ankle), and the answer through one game is Spence. The 23-year-old logged 22:07 of ice time and also skated with the first power-play unit. That latter role could eventually go to Brandt Clarke, but this is Spence's chance to solidify himself in the Kings' lineup after producing 24 points over 71 regular-season outings a year ago. Spence is worth a speculative add in most fantasy formats.

Spence was recalled from AHL Ontario on Saturday, per the NHL media site.
Spence was sent down to the minors Wednesday and played that night versus Abbotsford, putting two shots on net and picking up a minor penalty in a 2-1 shootout loss. He has 16 assists, 46 hits and 35 blocked shots in 44 NHL games this season. It's unclear at this time if Spence will play Saturday versus the Ducks.

Spence has 16 assists, 54 shots, 44 hits and 35 blocks in 44 contests this season. Although he's been a regular with the Kings for much of the season, Spence was a healthy scratch in LA's past four games, which might be what led to this move. It's also possible this is a paper transaction, and if that's the case, then the Kings will likely recall him before Thursday's game against Nashville.
