Chychrun was injured Tuesday versus the Rangers. While it's positive news that he is back on the ice, he appears to be doubtful ahead of Thursday's home tilt versus Montreal. Chychrun has two goals, two assists and 14 shots on goal in eight appearances this season.

Chychrun's status for Thursday's clash with Montreal remains unclear, as the team is still evaluating his upper-body injury. The goal was Chychrun's first as a Capital. The 26-year-old defenseman has immediately taken on a top-four role with his new team, adding four shots on net, three hits, two blocked shots and a plus-2 rating over two appearances. Chychrun will likely feature on the second power-play unit while playing alongside John Carlson on the top pairing at even strength.
Chychrun was traded to the Capitals from the Senators on Monday in exchange for Nick Jensen and a 2026 third-round pick.
Chychrun impressed this past season with 14 goals and 27 assists, including 16 power-play points, in 82 regular-season contests. It was just the second time in the blueliner's career that he was able to reach the 40-point threshold, having last done it back in 2020-21 with the Coyotes. Chychrun should offer more offensive upside for the Caps than the departing Jensen while also taking on a role with the No. 2 power-play unit.

Chychrun avenged his Nov. 16 outing against the Wings, when he skated to a minus-2 rating and marked the beginning of a seven-game point drought. He's performing quite well overall, based on five goals, 10 assists and eight power-play points through 22 games. The Senators' 22 points are the fewest in the Eastern Conference, but so are Ottawa's 22 games played, so Chychrun could start climbing the scoring leaderboard among defensemen as the Senators start to take the ice more regularly.
