Dallas hosted Toney (undisclosed) for a workout Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Toney was signed to the Cowboys' training camp roster in early August after Sam Williams was placed on injured reserve due to a torn ACL. Toney suffered a groin injury during a preseason game, and he was waived from Dallas' IR with an injury settlement in late August. He appears to be past the issue and he'll look to catch on with a Cowboys defense in desperate need of depth at defensive line due to starters DeMarcus Lawrence (foot), Marshawn Kneeland (knee) and Micah Parsons (ankle) all dealing with injuries.

Cowboys' Shaka Toney: Catches on with Dallas
Rotowire
The Cowboys signed Toney to their 90-man training camp roster Friday, per the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Toney worked out with the Cowboys on Thursday in the wake of Sam Williams tearing his ACL at practice Sunday. Toney last appeared in the NFL in 2022 with the Commanders, and across 16 regular-season games he posted eight tackles (four solo) while mostly playing on special teams. The 2021 seventh-round pick out of Penn State will look to make the most of his opportunity and compete for a defensive end depth spot behind starters Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence, although his biggest contribution could come on special teams.

Toney will work out with the Cowboys on Thursday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
Toney will get a shot to prove himself to the Cowboys after being let go by the Commanders in April. With Sam Williams (knee) done for the year with a torn ACL, Dallas is in need of another option on the defensive line. Toney last appeared in an NFL contest in 2022, recording eight tackles (four solo) over 16 games with Washington. He spent the entirety of the 2023 campaign at home after being suspended for the year for violating the league's policy on gambling.

Football Team's Shaka Toney: Won't play Sunday
Rotowire
Toney (illness) has been ruled out for Sunday's contest against the Packers, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Toney was a late add to the injury report Friday and will not be available for Week 7. The rookie seventh-round pick has only appeared in one game this season and hasn't recorded any stats, so his absence shouldn't affect Washington's defensive rotations.
