On Tuesday morning, the NFL world lost an innovative defensive mind when Buddy Ryan died at the age of 85. The creator of the 46 defense and the architect of the 1985 Bears defense (probably the greatest in NFL history), Ryan leaves behind an impressive legacy.

He also leaves behind a pair of bombastic sons, a pair of rowdy acorns who did not fall far from the tree. Rex Ryan and Rob Ryan are teamed up this season and, in an interview with Jenny Vrentas of TheMMQB.com, made it pretty clear how much this season means to them in terms of honoring their late father.

A "hell of a lot" even.

"This season means a hell of a lot to us. Our name, our legacy, means a hell of a lot. Our dad is recognized as being one of the great defensive coaches, probably arguably the best, in the history of the game," Rex said on the way to his father's funeral. "You can't say he's not in the top five, certainly. And we've been pretty successful through the years ourselves, but nothing like we want to be. We have won five Super Bowls as a family, but we want to win our sixth at some point. And I want to win it as a head coach, because that has never been done in our family.

"Obviously, it's not like these teams are going to roll down for us. We have to earn everything we get, and we're a long-ass way away from it. It's going to take a ton of work. But I really like my team."

The Ryan brothers were close to Buddy, working with him in the NFL -- Rex was the defensive line and linebackers coach while Rob was the defensive backs coach for the Arizona Cardinals in 1994 and 1995 while Buddy was the head coach.

Rob and Rex previously blew the doors off just about everyone in and around the NFL in another interview with Vrentas -- they are a fun as hell pair of guys to enjoy watching in the NFL.

There's a very good bet they go "Full Ryan" to honor their late father during the 2016 season.
