The 2016 season got off to such a promising start for Eddie Lacy, who averaged 5.1 yards per carry in the Packers first six games. But the 2013 second-round pick is now headed to injured reserve with an ankle injury that will require surgery, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. It's unclear if Lacy's surgery will be of the season-ending variety.
Meanwhile, an already-struggling offense will have to find its way without one of the bright spots this season. Aaron Rodgers' struggles are well documented -- as are those of the wide receivers and the play-calling in general -- and now the running game will go through ... well, that's the thing.
Lacy's backup, James Starks, is expected to miss four weeks with a knee injury, and the immediate running-game solution involves wide receiver Ty Montgomery and just-acquired former Chiefs running back Knile Davis. The team also promoted Don Jackson from the practice squad prior to kickoff of Thursday night's game against the Bears.
Silver lining to the Lacy news: Davis can be a game changer, though he's been in Green Bay for less than a week.
