After Jalen Ramsey signed his rookie contract back in May, the first expensive thing he wanted to purchase wasn't a car or a house: It was a number. A jersey number to be exact.
After Ramsey was taken with the fifth overall pick in the NFL Draft, the Jaguars gave him No. 38, something that he wasn't exactly happy about.
Lol wow smh

The Jaguars rookie was hoping to wear the No. 23 in 2016, but he couldn't get it because the number was already taken by teammate James Sample.
Ramsey then came up with a five-figure solution to his number problem: He'd offer Sample a ridiculous amount of money for 23.
As the fifth-overall pick in the NFL Draft, Ramsey was getting set to sign a four-year rookie deal that included $23.3 million in guaranteed money. Since Ramsey was about to have some extra cash, he decided to make a huge offer to Sample for the number. According to ESPN.com, Ramsey is "rumored" to have offered over $30,000 for the number.
That's not even the crazy part of the story. The crazy part is that Sample, who's only set to make a $525,000 base salary in 2016, turned down the offer!
"Me and him talked about it, but this year, I'm going to be wearing 23," Sample told ESPN.com in May. "No offer he could give me [could make him part with 23]. Money isn't the issue."
Since the Ramsey-Sample negotiations went down a month ago, you might be wondering why we're still taking about it now. Well, the answer to that question is simple: Ramsey didn't actually decide on a number until this week.
The rookie clearly wasn't happy with 38, so on Tuesday, he decided to go with a different number.
20-20 vision headed into this thang!!

I think it's time for a new tradition in Duval. #20Savage#blessedpic.twitter.com/46nTgky95z
The good news for Ramsey is that this number won't cost him $30,000.
Although Ramsey's reported offer sounds crazy, it's definitely not the craziest offer ever made for a jersey number. Back in 2013, Darrelle Revis paid a Buccaneers teammate $50,000 so that he could wear No. 24.
There's also the story of Deion Sanders, who bought a teammate a BMW so that he could wear No. 21 in Dallas.
