Former Broncos running back Montee Ball was arrested in Wisconsin on Friday after allegedly getting into a dispute with his girlfriend. The early morning incident, which took place at a hotel in Madison, ended with the female victim suffering a gash that needed stitches.
Madison Police spokesman Joel DeSpain told the Wisconsin State Journal that Ball allegedly "threw" the victim into a table.
"The woman told police she had a dispute with her boyfriend," DeSpain said. "She said he put his hands on her, picked her up and threw her."
According to the Associated Press, Ball is facing a felony battery charge. The incident took place around 3:45 a.m. on Friday.
The former Broncos running back could've been playing in the Super Bowl this week if he had been able to make the final roster in Denver, but he was cut by the Broncos on Sept. 6 after a lackluster preseason.
The 25-year-old was a second-round pick out of Wisconsin in 2013 and played in all 16 games for the Broncos during his rookie year. Ball was then hampered by injuries in 2014 and only played in a total of five games.
In 2015, Ball did get a second NFL shot after the Broncos cut him. The Patriots added him to their practice squad in December, but the running back never saw any regular-season action.
