Add another name to the list of journeyman bigs hoping to stick in the NBA thanks to the Washington Wizards.
The Washington Post reported Tuesday that free agent big man Brian Cook signed a training camp contract with the Wizards.
Cook was traded by the Los Angeles Clippers to the Wizards last season in a 3-team deadline deal that sent guard Nick Young westward. He appeared in 16 games down the stretch for Washington, averaging 3.1 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.
Cook, 31, will join fellow big men Earl Barron and Shavlik Randolph, who were previously extended training camp contracts. All told, the Wizards will have 18 players in camp, three more than the roster maximum. The Post noted that guard Steven Gray is also on a make-good contract while guard Shelvin Mack's deal is partially guaranteed.
If Cook survives the roster cutdown, he will join a frontcourt rotation that includes Nene Hilario, Emeka Okafor, Kevin Seraphin and Trevor Booker.
Cook, a 9-year veteran, holds career averages of 5.5 points and 2.6 rebounds in 13.4 minutes per game. Prior to his time with the Clippers and the Wizards, Cook's career included stops with the Los Angeles Lakers, Orlando Magic and Houston Rockets.
