On Wednesday, just one day ahead of a third-straight NBA Finals appearance, the Cleveland Cavaliers unveiled new logos for the 2017-18 season. They will debut along with new Nike uniforms next season.
The logos are a modernized look to the old style with an addition of the color black, which is a subtle nod to the 2016 NBA Champion team which overcame a 3-1 series deficit and wore black sleeved jerseys in wins in Games 5 and 7.
The Cavs will sport the Goodyear wing-foot logo on their jersey's next season as part of a new sponsorship deal that will be placed on the shoulder of the jersey.
Two "shield" style logos are also included in the new rollout as representation of the team's commitment to "Defend the Land" -- the team's mantra.
Additionally, the Cavaliers introduced a new global logo featuring the sword emblem popping off of a black shield and new wordmarks, which were inspired by the idea of a defender and the motion of a sword.
The Cavaliers begin their journey to defending their NBA title on Thursday night against the Golden State Warriors at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
