  • Giants' Kai-Wei Teng: Returns to action at Triple-A

Teng (undisclosed) has struck out five and has given up three earned runs on five hits and one walk over 6.2 innings over two appearances for Triple-A Sacramento since being reinstated from the 7-day injured list July 28. Teng had been on the shelf for three weeks before he made his return to Sacramento. The 25-year-old righty made four appearances out of the San Francisco bullpen earlier this season but is likely to serve as a swingman for Sacramento for the foreseeable future. He holds an 8.66 ERA and 1.76 WHIP over 44.2 innings for the Triple-A club in 2024.

  • Giants' Kai-Wei Teng: Headed down to Triple-A

Teng was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. The move corresponds with the Giants removing Sean Hjelle (elbow) from the 15-day IL. Teng has struggled in his first season in the majors, allowing 12 earned runs on 15 hits and eight walks over 11 innings. The right-hander will look to get his command back with Sacramento, where he posted a 4.22 ERA and 1.44 WHIP over 79 innings in 2023.

  • Giants' Kai-Wei Teng: Recalled from Sacramento

The Giants recalled Teng from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. The move corresponds with Luke Jackson (back) being placed on the Giants' 15-day IL. Teng started 2023 in Double-A Richmond, and he managed to work his way up to Triple-A Sacramento by June. With Sacramento, he posted a 4.22 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 96:48 K:BB over 79 innings while going 6-5 over 16 starts. Teng will fill Jackson's spot in the bullpen.

  • Giants' Kai-Wei Teng: Optioned to Triple-A

The Giants optioned Teng (oblique) to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Teng didn't make any Cactus League appearances due to a left oblique strain, but he seems to be just about fully healthy at this point, as he's scheduled to pitch in a minor-league game Wednesday, according to Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com. The 25-year-old right-hander should open the season as a member of Sacramento's rotation.

  • Giants' Kai-Wei Teng: Battling oblique strain

The Giants announced Wednesday that Teng will miss at least the first 2-to-3 weeks of spring training with a left oblique strain, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Teng was added to the Giants' 40-man roster over the winter, but even if he wasn't sidelined for the start of camp with the oblique injury, he wouldn't have been a serious candidate for a spot in the big club's Opening Day rotation. Once he moves past the oblique strain, Teng will likely head to Triple-A Sacramento, with whom he tallied a 4.22 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 96:48 K:BB in 79 innings last season.

  • Giants' Kai-Wei Teng: Receives 40-man spot

The Giants added Teng to their 40-man roster Tuesday. Teng split time between Double-A Richmond and Triple-A Sacramento last season, putting up a 4.42 ERA and 1.36 WHIP through 126.1 combined innings. Teng needs to work on his command before he can be relied on in the majors. but his impressive strikeout numbers warrant protection from the upcoming Rule 5 Draft.

  • Giants' Kai-Wei Teng: Sweeper leading to success

Teng has a 2.63 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 36 strikeouts in 24 innings across six starts for Double-A Richmond. According to Dylan White of Baseball America, Teng throws his sweeper nearly two-thirds of the time. That's an extreme percentage, especially for a starting pitcher, but his breaking ball is a better pitch than his 94-mph fastball. Essentially a two-pitch pitcher right now, Teng has gone between 3.2 innings and 4.2 innings in all six starts.

  • Giants' Kai-Wei Teng: Gets 10-game ban

Teng was one of four minor-league pitchers who received a 10-game suspension last week after being caught using illegal foreign substances to doctor baseballs, Jake Seiner of the Associated Press reports. Teng has made five starts for High-A Eugene this season, posting a 5.03 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 19.2 innings.
