  • Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Back at second base

Marte started at second base and went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, four RBI and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 14-4 win over Texas.

This was Marte's first game in the field since returning from an ankle injury last week. He served as the designated hitter his first three games back and was hitless over 11 at-bats before breaking out Wednesday. He led off the bottom of the first inning with a double and scored Arizona's first run, then his three-run homer in the fourth upped the Diamondbacks' lead to 8-2. Marte has 31 home runs -- one shy of the career high he set in 2019 -- and 85 RBI through 120 games.

  • Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: On bench Sunday

Marte is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.

Marte went 0-for-7 with a walk and four strikeouts as the designated hitter the past two games after being reinstated from the injured list Friday, and he'll receive a day off for the series finale in Houston. Luis Guillorme is starting at second base while Joc Pederson is back at designated hitter Sunday.

  • Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Serves as DH again

Marte started at designated hitter, went 0-for-4 and was hit by a pitch in Saturday's 11-5 loss to Houston.

Marte, who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Friday, served as the DH for a second consecutive game, as it appears the Diamondbacks want to be cautious. He had tried a couple of times to return from the injury in August only to aggravate it before eventually getting time on the IL to heal properly. Marte is hitless in nine plate appearances over the two games but did get a chance to run the bases Saturday, suggesting the ankle is okay now.

  • Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Hitless in return

Marte served as the designated hitter, batted leadoff and went 0-for-3 with a walk in Friday's 8-0 loss to the Astros.

Marte, who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Friday, resumed his role as the team's leadoff batter against a lefty, though he didn't play the field. He missed two and a half weeks due to an ankle sprain and could be brought back at a measured pace before returning to second base.

  • Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Activated from injured list

The Diamondbacks reinstated Marte (ankle) from the 10-day injured list Friday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

The 30-year-old landed on the injured list in mid-August due to an ankle sprain, but he's back with the Diamondbacks after a two-and-a-half-week absence. Marte has a .298/.370/.560 slash line with 30 homers through 116 games this season, and his return to the lineup will provide a major boost to Arizona's playoff push.

  • Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Could return this week

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Monday that Marte (ankle) could be activated from the 10-day injured list during the team's upcoming road trip, which begins Tuesday in San Francisco and ends Sunday in Houston, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Marte has been ramping up workouts in recent days and appears to be making significant progress. The second baseman has been sidelined since Aug. 19 due to an ankle sprain but looks to be on track for activation either mid-week or during the weekend.

  • Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Hitting in cages

Marte (ankle) began hitting in a batting cage Tuesday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

It appears to be the first time Marte has swung a bat since landing on the injured list Aug. 19 with an ankle sprain. Manager Torey Lovullo said Tuesday that the 30-year-old infielder is no longer receiving treatment, though it remains unclear how far away he is from a return.

  • Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: To begin pool work soon

Marte (ankle) is expected to begin running on a pool treadmill soon, MLB.com reports.

It's unclear when the pool work will begin, or if Marte can return after a minimum stay on the IL. Marte, who injured his left ankle Aug. 10, had a couple of failed attempts to get back on the field, but the Diamondbacks finally added him to the 10-day injured list Aug. 19. The team decided Marte simply needed rest.

  • Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Lands on IL with sprained ankle

The Diamondbacks placed Marte on the 10-day injured list Monday with a sprained left ankle.

Marte initially injured the ankle more than a week ago and has been in and out of the lineup since then. He aggravated the injury during a pinch-hit appearance Sunday versus the Rays, and the Diamondbacks have finally decided to make a roster move with the 30-year-old. No imaging is planned for Marte, per Steve Gilbert of MLB.com, and he could have a good chance to return from the IL on Aug. 29 when his 10 days are up. Kevin Newman and Blaze Alexander should fill in at second base while Marte is sidelined.
