This one can be seen from a mile away, but Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen isn't trying to hide it. He is "ready to erupt" on his ballclub. The following was his response on how close he is to a "meltdown" on his players, via Fish Tank blog:
“Not yet. That day it will happen, it will happen. We will close that door and we will be here to 2 o’clock in the morning. I will piss them off. They make me miserable, I will make them miserable, too. I want to be on ESPN, I want to be all over the news. I haven’t been there for a long time. I should. I make a lot of money when I’m doing that. Pretty soon I’m ready to erupt. But right now. … I’m just trying to be positive as much as I can because we need that.”
The Marlins are 5-17 in June, but they actually started the month 3-1. So they've gone 3-16 in their past 19 games. That would be tough for any club to stomach, but the Marlins went on a spending spree last winter, landing free agents Jose Reyes, Heath Bell and Mark Buehrle. And they moved into a nice, new stadium, hoping attendance would increase to the point that the Marlins could become one of the larger-market clubs in baseball.
As things stand, the Marlins enter Tuesday night five games under .500 and eight out of first place in the NL East.
