Former Marlins star pitcher Jose Fernandez is being laid to rest on Thursday and he's been memorialized throughout the week following his tragic death this past Sunday. His high school, Braulio Alonso High School in Tampa, Fla., had a candlelight vigil in his memory Wednesday night. On display was one of the two Fernandez jerseys in the school's possession, but now it's gone.

Via WTSP Tampa Bay:

Hillsborough County Public Schools sent out a press release to media saying Fernandez's jersey was hanging in the dugout during the ceremony. As the coaches and school leaders were cleaning up after the vigil, they noticed the jersey was gone.

The school has filed a police report with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. Coach Landy Faedo is pleading with whoever took the jersey, to return it.

Fernandez was drafted directly out of Braulio Alonso in 2011 and rather easily qualifies as the best player ever from the school. The school does still have one Fernandez jersey left:

Of course, that doesn't make the apparent theft of the other one acceptable. It's repulsive.

If it was stolen, hopefully whoever stole it comes to his or her senses and returns it as soon as possible.
