Outfielder Colby Rasmus on Thursday made a bit of history when he became the first player to accept a qualifying offer, CBSSports MLB insider Jon Heyman has confirmed. Rasmus' doing so means he'll depart the free-agent market and return to the Astros for 2016 on a one-year, $15.8 million contract.
Rasmus, 29, is coming off a 2015 season in Houston in which he batted .238/.314/.475 (113 OPS+) with 25 homers in 137 games while manning all three outfield positions. Over the course of his career, he's put up an OPS+ of 105 with 141 home runs across parts of seven big-league seasons.
Rasmus returns to a Houston oufield that also features George Springer and Carlos Gomez.
