Prior the coronavirus shutdown, Rory McIlroy was the No. 1 golfer in the world thanks to a streak of seven consecutive top-five finishes, but since the PGA Tour has restarted, he's slipped to No. 3. This week, McIlroy will look to put a rough patch behind him and capture his fifth major at the 2020 PGA Championship. The first major of the season begins on Thursday at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, where McIlroy won the 2015 WGC-Cadillac Match Play over Gary Woodland.

McIlroy is listed at 14-1, while Woodland is a 50-1 long shot in the latest 2020 PGA Championship odds from William Hill. New world No. 1 Justin Thomas is coming off a win at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, while Brooks Koepka is the two-time defending champion of the event. Accordingly, they're listed as 10-1 co-favorites in this week's 2020 PGA Tour Championship odds, while Tiger Woods, who attended nearby Stanford University, is going off at 28-1 after opening at 22-1. Before locking in your 2020 PGA Championship picks or entering any PGA DFS tournaments on sites like DraftKings and FanDuel, be sure to see the latest golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine

SportsLine's prediction model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been on fire since the return of the PGA Tour in June. In fact, it's up over $9,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament. Over the weekend, it was all over Justin Thomas winning the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational at 12-1. At the 3M Open, McClure's best bets returned a whopping $1,100 as he nailed a top-five pick on Max Homa (+1200) and a top-20 pick on Talor Gooch (+400).

At the Memorial Tournament, McClure used the model to identify winner Jon Rahm (22-1) as one of his best bets from the start. It also had him as the projected winner heading into the weekend. The model was also all over long shot winner Collin Morikawa at the Workday Charity Open. It identified him as a top contender from the start despite his long odds and McClure recommended an outright bet on him to win at 33-1. The model also called Bryson DeChambeau taking the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

McClure returned a whopping +788 during the 2020 Charles Schwab Challenge, including nailing top-five bets on Xander Schauffele at 13-2 and Collin Morikawa at 9-1. The model was also extremely high on 30-1 long shot winner Webb Simpson at the RBC Heritage. The model had him in the top five from the start and McClure's best bets included Simpson winning outright.

In all, the advanced computer model has nailed a whopping six majors entering the weekend, including two of the last three. Anyone who has followed its golf picks has seen massive returns returns.

Now that the PGA Championship 2020 field is locked, SportsLine simulated the event 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

The model's top 2020 PGA Championship predictions

One huge shocker the model is calling for at the PGA Championship 2020: Brooks Koepka, the two-time defending champion and the co-favorite at 10-1, stumbles big-time and doesn't even crack the top 10. Koepka saw his odds improve after a strong second-place performance at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational over the weekend. As impressive as that showing was, there's still plenty of risk backing him this week.

Koepka only has one other top-10 finish all season and had a forgettable July, missing the cut at the 3M Open and Workday Charity Open and finishing 62nd at the Memorial. He's a top-20 driver on the PGA Tour in terms of average distance (308.1 yards), but his aim has been sporadic at best, as he ranks 185th with a 54.62 percent driving accuracy percentage. There are far better values in this loaded 2020 PGA Tour Championship field, so be sure to fade Koepka this week.

Another surprise: Collin Morikawa, a 35-1 long shot, makes a strong run at the title. He has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. Morikawa played his college golf in the Bay Area at Cal and knows Harding Park well, having finished fifth there at the 2018 Goodwin Collegiate.

Morikawa's game should suit TPC Harding Park, with its heavily tree-lined fairways and thick rough but relatively flat green complexes. He ranks 17th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee (.465), while his shots into these greens should be a major advantage since he ranks second in strokes gained on approach (1.053). He'll be one of the local favorites this week, but that pressure should be lessened without fans in the gallery.

How to make 2020 PGA Championship picks

Also, the model says five other golfers with odds of 22-1 or longer will make a strong run at the title, including a monster long shot going off higher than 45-1. Anyone who backs these underdogs could hit it big. You can only see them here.
