Professional skier Matilda Rapaport has died following injuries sustained during an avalanche while filming in Chile.
The incident occurred on July 14, and Rapaport received medical attention for several days before succumbing to her injuries on Monday. She was 30 years old.
The Swedish freeskier was filming promotional material for the Ubisoft winter sports game, Steep, when the avalanche occurred.
"Matilda's courage, passion, and desire to share the sport she loved with the world served as an inspiration for other athletes and for us all," Ubisoft said in a statement. "This tragic accident has deeply touched us. Our hearts and prayers go out to her husband and her wider family at this difficult time."
According to Red Bull, Rapaport ranked in the top tier of the Freeride World Tour for several years and won the Scandanavian Big Mountain Championships in 2011. After entering as a wild card, she won the Xtreme Verbier, considered the world's hardest freeride competition, in 2013.
"Matilda was an extraordinary athlete, traveling the world to follow her passion, ride steep terrain and share her bright smile," Red Bull said in a statement. "But her favorite pastime remained spending time with her friends in Engelberg, Switzerland, and with her family of equally talented professional skiers in Sweden. ... A member of the Red Bull family since 2013, Matilda will be missed by the ski community, her fans and her supporters."
