Averett is expected to sign a contract with the Steelers on Sunday, Chris Halicke of DKPittsburghSports.com reports. Averett was brought in for a tryout during the Steelers' rookie minicamp this past weekend. He last played for the Raiders in 2022, logging 13 tackles and one pass defended over seven appearances. The 29-year-old joined the 49ers last August, but he was released from IR with an injury settlement just two weeks later. Averett joined up with Detroit's practice squad Oct. 10 and never appeared in any games during the 2023 campaign. Anthony Averett: Reaches injury settlement
Averett (undisclosed) was released from the 49ers' injured reserve Thursday after both parties agreed to an injury settlement, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Averett was in danger of missing the entire 2023 campaign before this injury settlement was agreed upon. It is unclear what specific injury is nagging him, but he will now be able to sign elsewhere once he is back to full health. The 28-year-old recorded 13 tackles (12 solo) across seven games in Las Vegas last year.... See More ... See Less -
49ers' Anthony Averett: Placed on IR
Averett (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve Friday, Josh Dubow of the Associated Press reports. Averett is slated to miss the entire 2023 season unless he works out an injury settlement with the team. He finished the 2022 campaign on injured reserve due to a toe injury, but it's unclear if his absence in 2023 is related to that injury or a different one.... See More ... See Less -
Anthony Averett: Tries out with Chicago
The Panthers hosted Averett for a workout Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Averett is looking for another opportunity to catch on with a team after recovering from a toe injury suffered last year. The 28-year-old appeared in seven games for the Raiders last season and logged 13 tackles (12 solo).... See More ... See Less -
Raiders' Anthony Averett: IR-bound again
Las Vegas placed Averett (toe) on its injured reserve list Tuesday ahead of Sunday's game versus the Chargers, Josh Dubow of The Associated Press reports. Averett already missed four weeks early in the season with a thumb injury, and he'll now be required to miss at least the next four games as well. The 2020 fourth-rounder Amik Robertson will likely see a significantly higher share of snaps in Averett's absence.... See More ... See Less -
Raiders' Anthony Averett: Headed for surgery
Averett was diagnosed Monday with a broken right thumb and will undergo surgery, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Per Rapoport, Averett will likely miss at least a month, which means he could land on injured reserve. In his absence, Amik Robertson and Roderic Teamer could have expanded roles moving forward.... Ravens' Anthony Averett: Won't play in regular-season finale
Averett (ribs) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Steelers, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports. Averett wasn't able to practice at all this week and will miss his second straight game due to the rib injury. Ravens' Anthony Averett: Won't play Sunday
Averett (ribs) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Rams. Averett sustained a fractured rib in last week's loss to the Bengals and was unable to practice ahead of Week 17. Jimmy Smith and Chris Westry could see increased work against the Rams.... See More ... See Less -
Ravens' Anthony Averett: Fractures rib
Averett suffered a fractured rib Sunday in a loss to the Bengals, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Averett was unable to return to the game after suffering the injury. Although not ruled out yet for Week 17 against the Rams, it may prove difficult for Averett to suit up this Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Ravens' Anthony Averett: Active for Week 14
Averett (knee) is active for Sunday's contest against the Browns. Averett was able to log a full practice Friday, so his availability Sunday comes as no surprise. In 11 appearances this season, the fourth-year pro has 46 tackles, nine pass deflections and two interceptions.... See More ... See Less -
Ravens' Anthony Averett: Questionable against Browns
Averett (thigh) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Browns. Averett is one of four Ravens cornerbacks listed as questionable, along with Jimmy Smith (neck), Chris Westry (thigh) and Tavon Young (foot/knee). Of those four, Smith is the only one who failed to practice at all Friday, with the other three logging limited sessions. If Averett suits up, he's expected to start opposite Marlon Humphrey.... Ravens' Anthony Averett: Won't play Sunday
Averett (thigh) is inactive for Sunday's contest against the Bears. Averett was a late addition to the injury report Friday with a thigh issue. Jimmy Smith (hip) is also inactive, so Chris Westry will likely see an increased role against Justin Fields and the Bears on Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Ravens' Anthony Averett: Questionable for Sunday
Averett (thigh) is questionable for Sunday's game at Chicago, Jonas Shaffer of The Baltimore Sun reports. Averett didn't practice Friday but didn't carry a designation earlier this week, so his status is worth monitoring prior to Sunday's kickoff. If he can't go, then Jimmy Smith (hip) or Chris Westry might be in line to play bigger roles in the secondary.... See More ... See Less -
Ravens' Anthony Averett: Career day in loss
Averett had seven solo tackles and three passes defended in a 41-17 loss to the Bengals on Sunday. Averett's total tackles tied a career high, while his three passes defended surpassed his previous best of two. Overall, though, it was a rough day for the Ravens defense, despite Averett's efforts. Averett and the Ravens head into a Week 8 bye and will look to rebound in Week 9 when they host the Vikings.... See More ... See Less -
Ravens' Anthony Averett: Starting against Jaguars
Averett will start at cornerback in Sunday's game versus the Jaguars, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports. The opportunity comes in response to both Jimmy Smith (shoulder/ribs) and Marcus Peters (calf) being inactive Sunday. Through seven games, Averett has averaged 26 defensive snaps per game. In that stretch, the third-year cornerback has given up 250 yards (10.0 yards per target) and no touchdowns in coverage.... See More ... See Less -
Ravens' Anthony Averett: Activated off IR
The Ravens activated Averett (shoulder) off injured reserve Friday. Averett has been on IR since late October. He was originally expected to miss 4-6 weeks due to a fractured shoulder, so his return is right on schedule. Barring any setbacks, he figures to take on his usual role providing depth in the secondary and potentially contributing on special teams.... See More ... See Less -
Ravens' Anthony Averett: Will play Week 7
Averett (ankle) is active for Sunday's game against Seattle. The 25-year-old missed the last couple games with the ankle issue but will play Sunday after being listed as questionable. Averett figures to see a reduced role following the acquisition of Marcus Peters, even with Jimmy Smith (knee) sidelined.... See More ... See Less -
Ravens' Anthony Averett: Questionable for Sunday
Averett (hamstring) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Panthers. Averett has missed five straight games due to a lingering hamstring injury, but he appears to have a shot of returning to the field against the Panthers on Sunday. Ravens' Anthony Averett: Will sit out Week 6
Averett (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Titans. Averett will miss his fourth consecutive contest with a hamstring injury, but his absence won't have much of an impact on the Ravens' defense since a majority of his snaps come on special teams.... See More ... See Less -
