Bears running back coach Stan Drayton has been impressed with Howard's quickness in short spaces, Michal Dwojak of the Chicago Tribune reports.
When combined with his prototypical size as a power runner, Howard is expected to have a great opportunity to earn a role as a short-yardage and goal line runner for the Bears. He's currently competing with incumbent Jeremy Langford and Ka'Deem Carey for regular season snaps, but from a physical standpoint, the rookie has the best build for the short yardage role, though he'll also be trying to earn work as a two-down thumper. This will be an interesting position battle to watch throughout the preseason.
