Muckenhirn cleared waivers Friday and was sent outright to Triple-A Tacoma. The Mariners DFA'd Muckenhirn on Wednesday, but he will remain in the organization after going unclaimed. The 28-year-old reliever hasn't pitched for Seattle in the majors since being acquired from the Mets in July, and he's put up a 9.35 ERA and 1.95 WHIP through 8.2 frames with Tacoma.... See More ... Mariners' Zach Muckenhirn: Loses 40-man spot
The Mariners designated Muckenhirn for assignment Wednesday. The southpaw will move off the Mariners' 40-man roster with Seattle needing to clear a spot for right-hander Emerson Hancock, whose contract was selected from Double-A Arkansas ahead of his first MLB start Wednesday versus the Padres. Since being acquired in a trade with the Mets on July 3, Muckenhirn has pitched exclusively at Triple-A Tacoma, where he turned in a 9.35 ERA and 1.95 WHIP over 8.2 innings.... See More ... Mariners' Zach Muckenhirn: Dealt to Seattle
The Mariners acquired Muckenhirn from the Mets on Monday in exchange for right-handers Chris Flexen and Trevor Gott, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. Seattle optioned him to Triple-A Tacoma. The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the Mariners while also sparing Seattle from covering the approximately $4.6 million remaining on the contracts of Flexen and Gott for the 2023 season. A 28-year-old southpaw, Muckenhirn reached the majors for the first time earlier this season and made three appearances for the Mets, but the bulk of his innings have come at Triple-A Syracuse, with whom he's produced a tidy 0.88 ERA and 1.13 WHIP over 30.2 innings. Muckenhirn could be one of the top options for a promotion when the Mariners require a lefty arm in the bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Zach Muckenhirn: Designated for assignment
Muckenhirn was designated for assignment Monday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports. Muckenhirn has allowed four runs in six relief innings with the Mets this season. He's spent most of the year at Triple-A Syracuse, where he's posted a 0.88 ERA but with just 19 strikeouts in 30.2 frames.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Zach Muckenhirn: Sent back to Syracuse
Muckenhirn was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. Muckenhirn was called up Friday but was knocked around by the Pirates that same night, giving up three runs on six hits across 2.1 innings of relief. Josh Walker was called up to take his place in the bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Zach Muckenhirn: Officially promoted
The Mets recalled Muckenhirn from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Muckenhirn has been very impressive this season in Syracuse, logging a 1.11 ERA and 1.04 WHIP through 24.1 innings. A low strikeout rate makes him unlikely to see many high-leverage situations, but he has the capability to pitch multiple innings out of the bullpen. Stephen Nogosek was designated for assignment Friday to make room for Muckenhirn on the active roster.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Zach Muckenhirn: Could be headed to majors
Muckenhirn could be in line for a promotion to the majors, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. The Mets are in need of a fresh bullpen arm and Muckenhirn appears to be the likely choice. The left-hander has yielded one run over 3.2 innings at the big-league level this season.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Zach Muckenhirn: Goes back to minors
The Mets optioned Muckenhirn to Triple-A Syracuse on Monday. Muckenhirn was up with the Mets for just one day, as he served as the team's 27th man for Sunday's doubleheader with the Nationals. The left-hander appeared out of the bullpen in the Mets' 8-2 win in Game 2, working two innings while giving up one run on four hits and one walk.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Zach Muckenhirn: Gets call for doubleheader
The Mets recalled Muckenhirn from Triple-A Syracuse ahead of the second game of Sunday's doubleheader with the Nationals, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports. He'll be in line for his second stint with the big club this season after he previously tossed 1.2 scoreless innings in his lone appearance out of the bullpen earlier in May. Muckenhirn should be capable of giving the Mets multiple innings out of the bullpen behind starter Max Scherzer if necessary, but expect the rookie to return to Syracuse immediately after Sunday's game.... Mets' Zach Muckenhirn: Nabs first MLB call-up
The Mets selected Muckenhirn's contract from Triple-A Syracuse prior to the second game of Monday's doubleheader with Atlanta. The Mets will have Muckenhirn and Jose Butto -- who was designated as the 27th man for the twin bill -- available to provide length behind starter Tylor Megill for the second game after New York treated the opening game as a bullpen day, with five relievers covering nine innings in the 9-8 loss. Muckenhirn is in the majors for the first time in his career after he churned out a 0.77 ERA and 1.25 WHIP over 11.2 innings at Syracuse, though those ratios were supported by a poor 4:4 K:BB.... Mets' Zach Muckenhirn: Could win bullpen spot
Muckenhirn has posted a 7:0 K:BB over six scoreless innings this spring and could win the final spot in the Mets' bullpen, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports. The 28-year-old southpaw has yet to make his big-league debut, but he could get that chance in 2023 in a New York bullpen with a spot open after Edwin Diaz's season-ending knee injury. Muckenhirn would give the Mets a second left-handed relief option behind Brooks Raley (hamstring) and would likely work in low-leverage spots.... See More ... See Less
