  • Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: On bench Friday

Loperfido is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Marlins. Loperfido is idle for the third time in seven games, giving way to Jonatan Clase in center field Friday. While Loperfido's playing time in center has been slipping, he's gotten a couple of looks in left field over the last four games.

  • Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: Heads to bench vs. righty

Loperfido is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox. Loperfido had picked up starts in each of the Blue Jays' previous three matchups with right-handed pitchers, but he'll hit the bench Monday while the Red Sox send righty Tanner Houck to the mound. The newly recalled Jonatan Clase will pick up a start in center field at the expense of Loperfido, who could fade into more of a part-time role in the final week of the regular season while he's in the midst of an extended dry spell at the dish. Since stringing together four consecutive two-hit games from Aug. 20 through 24, Loperfido has slashed .164/.203/.246 with a 34.4 percent strikeout rate.

  • Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: Back in action Wednesday

Loperfido (hip) is starting in center field and batting eighth Wednesday against the Rangers. The 25-year-old suffered an adductor injury during Saturday's matchup with the Cardinals and is rejoining the lineup Wednesday after a couple days off. Loperfido should continue seeing regular action in Toronto's outfield down the stretch, and he'll likely see more starts in center field since Daulton Varsho (shoulder) will miss the rest of the season.

  • Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: Departs with injury

Loperfido was removed from Saturday's game against St. Louis with left adductor discomfort, Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star reports. Loperfido appeared to be grabbing at his hip after hitting a double in the third inning of Saturday's contest, though he managed to stay in the game until the fifth frame. If his injury proves to be severe enough to prevent him from playing Sunday, Nathan Lukes would likely be the next man in line to start in left field.

  • Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: Dropped from lineup Monday

Loperfido is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets. Loperfido will hit the bench after he started the final two games of the Blue Jays' weekend series with Atlanta, going 3-for-7 with a double and a walk between those contests. Since joining the Blue Jays at the trade deadline, Loperfido has put together a .222/.260/.394 slash line with a 32.7 percent strikeout rate over 29 games. Loperfido's lack of productivity has prevented him from fully taking control of an everyday spot in the Toronto outfield.

  • Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: Sitting again Saturday

Loperfido isn't in the Blue Jays' lineup Saturday against the Twins. Loperfido will sit for the second game in a row Saturday as Nathan Lukes picks up another start in left field while batting eighth.

  • Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: Goes deep in win

Loperfido went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 5-4 win over the Angels. Loperfido led off the ninth inning with a game-tying blast of Roansy Contreras that was followed by a walk-off homer from fellow rookie Addison Barger. Loperfido may be heating up at the dish with multiple hits in four of his last five games, including two home runs over that span. The 25-year-old has a .732 OPS in 17 games with the Blue Jays and should continue to see regular at-bats down the stretch.

  • Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: Sitting out series finale

Loperfido is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds. Cincinnati has a right-hander on the bump in Nick Martinez, but the left-handed-hitting Loperfido will nonetheless begin the contest on the bench. Davis Schneider will receive the starting nod in left field in place of Loperfido.

  • Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: Records third steal

Loperfido went 1-for-3 with a walk, one RBI and one stolen base in Tuesday's 6-1 win over the Angels. Loperfido entered Tuesday 0-for-22 with 10 strikeouts over his last six games. He was able to break the slump and pick up his first steal since June 23 when he was a member of the Astros. The outfielder is slashing .207/.266/.310 with two home runs, three steals, 17 RBI, 14 runs scored, five doubles and two triples over 159 plate appearances this season. He's maintained a strong-side platoon role in left field despite his recent poor hitting, though he could lose some work if Davis Schneider is able to break out of his own slump any time soon.

  • Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: Taking seat against southpaw

Loperfido is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles. After beginning his Blue Jays tenure with five consecutive starts, the lefty-hitting Loperfido will hit the bench while the Orioles send southpaw Trevor Rogers to the bump. Davis Schneider will spell Loperfido in left field Wednesday.

  • Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: Sent to Toronto

The Blue Jays acquired Loperfido, right-hander Jake Bloss and infielder Will Wagner from the Astros on Monday in exchange for left-hander Yusei Kikuchi, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. After posting monstrous numbers at Triple-A Sugar Land, Loperfido had two separate stints in the majors with the Astros this season, batting .236 with two home runs, 16 RBI, 11 runs scored and two stolen bases over 118 plate appearances. The 25-year-old had begun to see his playing time slip a bit in Houston, but Loperfido's role could grow more stable as he joins a non-contending Blue Jays squad. He'll provide Toronto with a versatile asset, as he saw action at all three outfield spots as well as first base during his time in Houston.

  • Astros' Joey Loperfido: Hitting bench Monday

Loperfido is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Pirates. Loperfido will take a seat in the series opener with Pittsburgh, paving the way for Trey Cabbage to pick up a start in right field against Pirates righty Paul Skenes. Since being recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land on June 21, Loperfido has mustered a lowly .179/.253/.313 slash line over 23 games.

  • Astros' Joey Loperfido: Heading to bench Wednesday

Loperfido is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics. Loperfido will hit the bench for the third time in four games, giving way to Chas McCormick in right field. With Loperfido falling into an 0-for-15 slump at the plate over his last five games, the Astros have opted to scale back the rookie's playing time of late. Along with Chas McCormick, Trey Cabbage has also factored into the mix for starts in right field, where the Astros could continue to deploy a messy three-man committee until Kyle Tucker (shin) is ready to return from the 10-day injured list.

  • Astros' Joey Loperfido: Not in lineup Tuesday

Loperfido is absent from the starting nine for Tuesday's game against Miami, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Loperfido is on the bench for a second consecutive contest, giving way to Chas McCormick in right field Tuesday. Loperfido is 5-for-33 (.152) with 12 strikeouts over his last 11 games.

  • Astros' Joey Loperfido: Back on bench Sunday

Loperfido is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins. After hitting the bench for a three-game stretch from last Saturday through Monday, Loperfido had started in four of the Astros' previous five contests while going 2-for-16 with a double and two RBI. He'll cede his spot in the lineup to Chas McCormick in Sunday's series finale, and both Loperfido and McCormick will likely see their playing time trend downward once Kyle Tucker (shin) is able to return from the 10-day injured list after the All-Star break.

  • Astros' Joey Loperfido: Out of Sunday's lineup

Loperfido is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Loperfido started six straight games before taking a seat for Saturday's contest, and he finds himself on the bench again Sunday. He collected three hits in his first game back from the injured list June 21 but has gone 1-for-15 in the ensuing five contests. Mauricio Dubon will take over in left field as Jon Singleton receives a start at first base.

  • Astros' Joey Loperfido: Getting fifth straight start

Loperfido will start in right field and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Rockies. Loperfido will stick in the starting nine for a fifth straight game after going 4-for-13 with two doubles, one walk, two RBI, one stolen base and one run through his first four games since receiving a call-up from Triple-A Sugar Land. Houston has room in its everyday outfield for both Loperfido and Chas McCormick for the moment, but one of the two will likely lose out on playing time once Kyle Tucker (shin) makes his return from the 10-day injured list, perhaps as soon as next week.

  • Astros' Joey Loperfido: Big game in return to majors

Loperfido went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and two RBI in Friday's win over Baltimore. Loperfido was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday and made his first MLB appearance since June 10. He wasted no time making an impact, singling on the second pitch he saw in his first at-bat and later coming around to score. He added a pair of RBI doubles during Houston's monster nine-run sixth inning. Loperfido is forcing his way into more playing time at the top level with his consistent success. He's slashing .372/.413/.512 through his first 16 career MLB games.

  • Astros' Joey Loperfido: Recalled from Triple-A

The Astros recalled Loperfido from Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday. Loperfido has hit .333/.381/.436 with one homer and one steal in 15 games with the Astros, although that's come with a 39.5 percent strikeout rate. All of Loperfido's action in the minors lately has come in the outfield, so that figures to be his best path to playing time right now with the big club. He has also been used some at first base.

  • Astros' Joey Loperfido: Headed back to majors

The Astros will recall Loperfido from Triple-A Sugar Land prior to Friday's game against the Orioles, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. It's not yet clear what the corresponding roster move will be. Loperfido has slashed .272/.365/.568 with 13 home runs and nine stolen bases this season with Sugar Land and has hit .333/.381/.436 with one homer and one steal in 15 games with the Astros. Contact has been an issue at both spots, as he had a 28 percent strikeout rate at Sugar Land and a 39.5 percent strikeout rate in Houston. His power and speed potential is real, however. Loperfido played only center field during his most recent stint in the minors, so while he does have some experience at first base, the Astros seem to still be viewing him mostly as an option in the outfield.
