Player Outlook
Seattle acquired Ryan Bliss in the four-player deal that shipped Paul Sewald to Arizona. The infielder scorched Double-A pitching to the tune of .358/.414/.594, and while he initially struggled in Triple-A, a hot finish allowed him to finish with an OPS of .822 in Tacoma over 226 plate appearances while finishing with 55 stolen bases for good measure. Despite a less-than-prototypical frame, Bliss has been able to tap into more power than expected when he was drafted with the 42nd pick in 2021, and he makes enough hard contact to all parts of the field to believe he can hit for a high average, as well. He isn't likely to make the Opening Day roster, but Bliss has a good chance of making his MLB debut in 2024, and there's certainly a chance for fantasy relevance in the coming seasons.

  • Mariners' Ryan Bliss: Swipes two bases Saturday

Bliss went 1-for-2 with two walks, two stolen bases and three runs in a 9-0 win against the Angels on Saturday. Bliss made a big contribution from the No. 9 slot in the batting order, reaching base three times and scoring three of the Mariners' nine runs. The infielder probably wasn't in many fantasy lineups, but he made a big impact for managers who rolled with him by swiping a pair of bags. Speed is a big part of Bliss's game -- he swiped 28 bags in 50 games for Triple-A Tacoma this season after stealing 55 bases in 70 attempts in the minors last year.

  • Mariners' Ryan Bliss: Added to roster

The Mariners selected Bliss's contract from Triple-A Tacoma on Monday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. The 24-year-old infielder receives his first major-league promotion after putting up a .247/.382/.445 batting line with seven home runs and 28 stolen bases this season with Tacoma. The right-handed hitting Bliss plays both middle infield spots and could get some starts at second base versus lefties due to Jorge Polanco (hamstring) going down.

  • Mariners' Ryan Bliss: On taxi squad

Bliss has been added to the Mariners' taxi squad in case he's needed to replace Jorge Polanco (hamstring) on the roster, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Bliss, 24, has slashed .247/.382/.445 with seven home runs and 28 stolen bases with Triple-A Tacoma this season. Acquired from the Diamondbacks in last year's Paul Sewald trade, Bliss is not currently on the Mariners' 40-man roster.

  • Diamondbacks' Ryan Bliss: Earns org's monthly player award

Bliss earned the Diamondbacks' minor league Player of the Month award for April, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. Bliss hit .410 (1.050 OPS) with eight doubles, two triples, two home runs, 14 RBI and eight stolen bases over 18 games at Double-A Amarillo. The shortstop hasn't stopped hitting in May, collecting two homers and five RBI with a .919 OPS through five games. It's a huge turnaround for the organization's second-round pick in the 2021 draft, who hit .214 with a .641 OPS last year for High-A Hillsboro. Bliss opted to grind through the season instead of working on his swing at the team's training facility and performed better, hitting .262 (.818 OPS) over July and August.
