Steer went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Orioles. Steer's ninth-inning single plated Cincinnati's lone run, marked his team-leading 23rd RBI and snapped the club's 26-inning scoreless streak at home. The Reds started five players batting .200 or lower and have had issues scoring of late, batting .185 with 78 strikeouts over the last eight games (six losses). Steer's .333 average and .639 slugging with runners in scoring position could be more helpful if the Reds can get on base in front of him. The club ranks 27th in MLB with a .292 on-base percentage.... See More ... See Less

Reds' Spencer Steer: Clubs solo homer
Steer went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base during Wednesday's 6-2 loss to San Diego. Steer advanced to a perfect 8-for-8 on steal attempts this season and belted his fourth home run of the campaign -- and his first since April 6 -- off of Joe Musgrove in the first inning. He's cooled off since going on a tear to open the season and is batting 5-for-40 (.125) with four RBi and three runs scored during his last 11 games.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Spencer Steer: Fills in at first base
Steer started at first base and went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and an RBI in Sunday's 4-3 loss to Texas. Steer moved from his usual left field to first base, replacing the injured Christian Encarnacion-Strand (hand). The run batted in was just his second in the last 14 games, but Speer continues to the lead the club with 20 RBI through 28 games. The steal was his seventh, nearly half of the 15 he had over 156 games in 2023. Encarnacion-Strand may miss a few more games, per Mark Sheldon of MLB.com, and Steer could add to his games played at first base. So far, he's made four appearances there.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Spencer Steer: Snaps slump, logs steal
Steer went 1-for-2 with two walks and a stolen base in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Rangers. Steer snapped an 0-for-18 skid in the third inning then stole his sixth base in 26 games and is on pace to surpass the 15 steals he had in 2023. That's the good fantasy news. On the other side, that hitless run came at the tail end of a 5-for-40 (.125) stretch with no extra-base hits and one RBI over 11 games.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Spencer Steer: Covers first base
Steer started at first base for an unavailable Christian Encarnacion-Strand (illness) in Wednesday's 5-1 loss to Seattle. He went 0-for-3. Steer was one of eight Reds in the order to go hitless against Mariner pitching. Elly De La Cruz's second-inning home run off Bryce Miller was the lone offense mustered by Cincinnati. Reds manager David Bell wasn't specific on Encarnacion-Strand's symptoms but mentioned he hadn't been feeling well ahead of the series in Seattle. Steer is 1-for-14 over the last four games but still has a .992 OPS on the season.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Spencer Steer: Cracks go-ahead grand slam
Steer went 2-for-5 with a double, home run, four RBI and two runs in Monday's win over the Phillies. Steer stepped to the plate in the top of the 10th inning Monday against Connor Brogdon and hit a go-ahead 383-foot home run to give Cincinnati the lead for good. It was Steer's first career grand slam. The second-year Red looks to build upon his strong rookie campaign last season in which he slashed .271/.356/.464 with 23 home runs and 86 RBI.... See More ... Reds' Spencer Steer: Handling second base
Steer started at second base and went 1-for-4 in Wednesday's spring game against the Rangers. Steer made a third consecutive start at second base in the wake of Matt McLain's shoulder injury, which will land him on the injured list to start the season. The Reds have other options for the keystone, including Jonathan India and Santiago Espinal, who was acquired via trade Wednesday. Steer had been scheduled to see most of his time in the outfield this season, but McLain's injury and third baseman Noelvi Marte's 80-game suspension could alter the outfield plans for Steer.... Reds' Spencer Steer: Slated for outfield duty
Steer is in line to play regularly in the outfield following the Reds' signing of Jeimer Candelario, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Cincinnati made a crowded infield situation even more crowded with its acquisition of Candelario. Steer is an infielder by trade, but he made 38 starts in the outfield in 2023 and would appear pegged for regular left field duty in 2024. Even with Steer slated to play mostly in the outfield next season, the Reds would still appear to have at least one more infielder than they have starting spots. Jonathan India remains a good bet to be traded.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Spencer Steer: Out of Sunday's lineup
Steer is not in the lineup for Sunday's game at St. Louis. Steer had a strong finish to the season with a .942 OPS while starting the past 11 games, but he'll take a seat for Sunday's finale. The 25-year-old has put together a strong rookie campaign with 23 home runs, 15 steals, 86 RBI and an .820 OPS in 665 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Spencer Steer: Joins homer party
Steer went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run in Friday's 19-2 win over St. Louis. Steer launched a solo home run in the second inning -- he was one of six members of the starting lineup to go deep in a win that kept the Reds' playoff hopes alive. He's hit safely in 12 of the last 13 games, going 16-for-49 (.327) with nine extra-base hits, eight RBI and seven runs scored. The home run was Steer's 23rd over 155 games.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Spencer Steer: Secures three hits
Steer went 3-for-4 with a double, one RBI and one run scored in Monday's 7-3 victory over the Twins. Steer laced a double off Joe Ryan in the fourth inning for his 32nd of the year. He later added an RBI-single off Dallas Keuchel in the seventh inning for his third hit in the contest. Steer is looking to close out the year on a strong note and is now batting .278 with four homers, 10 RBI and eight runs over 61 at-bats in September. The 25-year-old is slashing .269/.358/.457 over 147 games amidst a breakout season.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Spencer Steer: Not in lineup
Steer will sit Saturday against the Mets. Steer owns an .837 OPS in the month of September and an .808 OPS on the year, but he'll hit the bench after starting 35 consecutive games. The timing of his off day is somewhat unusual given that he's homered in each of his last two games, but it seems to be merely a routine rest day.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Spencer Steer: Launches another homer
Steer went 1-for-3 with a walk, a home run and two RBI in Friday's 5-3 win over the Mets. Steer homered for a second straight day and the fourth time in the last 11 games, upping his season total to 22. Cincinnati manager David Bell likes to take advantage of Steer's versatility and moves him around the lineup. Over the last six games, Steer made starts at first base, third base and right field; he also moved mid-game to left field and second base during that stretch. For the season, Steer has started 60 games at first base, 46 at third base, 34 in left field, 15 at second base, six at designated hitter and two in right field.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Spencer Steer: Logs steal in loss
Steer started at second base and went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 9-4 loss to St. Louis. Steer, who never stole more than eight bases in a season while in the minors, stole his 13th bag for the Reds. His stint as the primary fill-in at second base could be ending soon, as Jonathan India (foot) began a rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville on Friday. India is expected to return Tuesday, which means manager David Bell can take advantage of Steer's versatility, moving him between third base, first base and left field.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Spencer Steer: Ends homer drought
Steer started at second base and went 1-for-4 with a walk, a home run and an additional run scored in Sunday's 15-7 loss to the Cubs. Steer belted the second of back-to-back home runs in the first inning to give the Reds an early lead. The homer snapped a 21-game drought for Steer, who has 19 for the season. With news that Jonathan India (foot) will begin a rehab assignment this week, Steer should serve as the primary second baseman for another handful of games. He's appeared in 10 games at the keystone already, which may be enough to qualify as a middle infielder depending on a fantasy league's rules.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Spencer Steer: Hits in both ends of doubleheader
Steer went 3-for-4 with a walk and two RBI in the first game of the Wednesday's doubleheader sweep of the Angels. He added a hit, two walks and an RBI in the nightcap. Steer has hit safely in four consecutive games and has at least one RBI in three straight. He's driven in 12 runs during August, placing him atop the club with 70 RBI for the season. Steer, who has bounced around the order all season, has primarily batted cleanup this month.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Spencer Steer: Homers in loss
Steer went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to Miami Steer belted the first of two homers that put the Reds on top in the fourth inning, but it was not enough to prevent the club's eighth loss in nine games. It's been a tough homestand for Steer, who is just 3-for-21 over those six games at Great American Ball Park .... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Spencer Steer: Gets Sunday off
Steer is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals. Steer will hit the bench for the series finale after he started in each of the last nine games while going 8-for-36 (.222 average) with three home runs and seven RBI. He'll give way to Stuart Fairchild in left field Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Spencer Steer: Moves to left field
Steer started in left field and went 0-for-4 in Saturday's 7-3 loss to the Nationals. Steer made a second straight start in left field, as the Reds placed Jake Fraley on the injured list with a fractured toe. Steer is no stranger to left field, as he's often started there when Fraley sat against left-handers, but if he's called on to play more in the outfield, third base becomes a rotation of players. On Friday, Kevin Newman started at third followed by Saturday's starter Nick Senzel. Once Jonathan India (foot) is ready to return, Elly De La Cruz should start most games at the hot corner.... Reds' Spencer Steer: Homers in second straight game
Steer went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double against the Cubs in a loss Thursday. Steer brought the Reds to within a run with his eighth-inning solo blast to center field, but that was as close as Cincinnati would get. The long ball was Steer's second in as many days and marked the sixth time in his past seven games that he's driven in at least one run. Over that span, the talented 25-year-old is batting .286 (8-for-28) with three homers, seven RBI and six runs.... See More ... See Less
