Check out Brian Cook's official CBSSports.com BlogPoll Top 25 blog!
More than 100 of the most influential and knowledgeable college football bloggers - representing virtually every rooting interest and millions of fans - are aligned to create the most transparent and authentic weekly Top 25 ranking of college football teams. How does it work? Every week, BlogPoll voters submit their individual ballots, which are compiled by Brian Cook, editor of MGoBlog.com and creator of the BlogPoll. This Top 25 ranking is sent on Monday morning to CBSSports.com, which posts it alongside the "traditional" polls. Why is the BlogPoll unique? Two big reasons: Authenticity and transparency. Rather than being sequestered in a single press box or distracted by coaching responsibilities, the BlogPoll voters consume college football in the same obsessive way you do. At the same time, the voters expertly and passionately manage round-the-clock coverage of their own teams, without being beholden to those teams. For legitimacy in compiling a weekly Top 25 ballot, it is the ultimate chemistry. Meanwhile, the poll itself is the model of transparency that fans have long expected to see from the "mainstream" polls. Every BlogPoll voters' ballot is available for review (see blog list below), and the voters are exceptionally accessible to fans. In addition to posting the "Delta" (or change from the team's ranking the week before), the poll results showcase "Standard Deviation," or how closely aligned each team is to all the ballots. Each week, Brian Cook analyzes the individual ballots for CBSSports.com, exposing any excessive homerism and other odd anomalies within the voting. It is exactly the kind of "open" transparency you won't find in the inscrutable "traditional" polls. How can fans take part? Scan the list of participating bloggers found on the main BlogPoll page. Find your favorite team's blogger, review their ballot and react with approval or suggestions to make changes, which each blogger can incorporate into their final ballot, compiled and posted every Wednesday. |
