  • Saints' Bub Means: No practice Thursday

Means (ankle) didn't practice Thursday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

With a high-ankle sprain in tow, Means' lack of activity so far this week isn't unexpected, and the Saints could potentially make a ruling on his status for Sunday's game at Carolina as soon as they post Friday's injury report. With Rashid Shaheed (knee) out for the season and Cedrick Wilson (hip) also nicked up this week, Chris Olave, Mason Tipton, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Jermaine Jackson are the healthy wide receivers on New Orleans' active roster.

  • Saints' Bub Means: Sits out Wednesday

Means (ankle) was a non-participant at Wednesday's practice.

Means' absence doesn't come as a surprise after he was removed from this past Sunday's loss to the Chargers with a high-ankle sprain, which typically results in a multi-game absence. The rookie wideout's status will likely receive clarity by week's end, and there's also the prospect of fellow receiver Cedrick Wilson -- who didn't practice Wednesday -- missing time due to a hip injury. Currently, Chris Olave, Mason Tipton, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Jermaine Johnson are the healthy options at the position on the Saints' active roster.

  • Saints' Bub Means: Will miss time

Means suffered a high-ankle sprain in Sunday's loss to the Chargers, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports.

Means was amid an increased role with Rashid Shaheed (knee) out of action, but the rookie receiver now will join him on the sidelines. It's unclear how much time the Pittsburgh product will miss, but he's likely looking at a multi-week absence. Cedrick Wilson (hip) and recent acquisition Marquez Valdes-Scantling likely will be beneficiaries in whatever time Means misses.

  • Saints' Bub Means: Hurts ankle in Week 8 loss

Coach Dennis Allen said after Sunday's 26-8 loss to the Chargers that Means sustained an ankle injury during the game, John Hendrix of SI.com reports.

Means' injury occurred late in the game, but he contributed only one catch for 36 yards on his only target prior to exiting. The rookie's role diminished significantly with Chris Olave (concussion) back in the fold. Means' practice participation will be worth monitoring when the Saints begin practicing Wednesday ahead of a Week 9 trip to Carolina.

  • Saints' Bub Means: Three catches in loss

Means secured three of five targets for 37 yards in the Saints' 33-10 loss to the Broncos on Thursday night.

Means found himself in an expanded role with Chris Olave (concussion), Rashid Shaheed (knee) and Taysom Hill (ribs) all sidelined, and he finished tied for second in receptions and fourth in receiving yards. The rookie fifth-round pick went without a catch for the first four games of his career, but he's now generated an 8-82-1 line on 13 targets over the last pair of contests. Means could be in for extra opportunity again in a Week 8 road matchup against the Chargers on Sunday, Oct. 27 with Shaheed now ruled out for the season.

  • Saints' Bub Means: Career-best showing in loss

Means brought in five of eight targets for 45 yards and a touchdown in the Saints' 51-27 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday.

The rookie fifth-round pick had logged only one target and zero catches through the first five games of his NFL career, but Means took advantage of Chris Olave's early exit due to a concussion to record his first stats as a pro. What's more, Means also happened to be on the receiving end of fellow rookie Spencer Rattler's first career touchdown pass, a nifty 10-yard grab just before the halfway point of the second quarter. Despite the surprisingly productive showing, Means' minuscule role to date and the fact it took Olave's absence to allow the former to see meaningful involvement casts doubt on how much carryover there will be in future weeks. However, with New Orleans on a short week before a Week 7 Thursday night home matchup against the Broncos, Means could certainly carry some short-term fantasy value.

  • Saints' Bub Means: Healthy scratch

Means (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against the Eagles.

Means was active for the team's first two games, playing just 12 total snaps on offense and seeing a single target he wasn't able to catch. His next opportunity to play will come in Week 4 against the Falcons.

  • Saints' Bub Means: Plays six snaps Sunday

Means compiled zero receptions (on one target) for zero yards during Sunday's 47-10 victory over the Panthers.

Means got onto the field late in the fourth quarter, finishing with the fewest offensive snaps of the five wide receivers who played for the Saints on Sunday. The rookie out of Pittsburgh didn't show up on the offensive stat sheet outside of one target, and his only other notable moment came when he drew an offensive holding penalty on the opening kickoff return. Second-year wideout A.T. Perry was also inactive with a hand injury Week 1. When this wide receiver corps is fully healthy, it's likely that Means will be spending the vast majority of games on the sideline this season. He could see fringe playing time if Perry remains out for next Sunday's road game at Dallas.
