Notre Dame has reportedly found its new offensive coordinator. The Fighting Irish are expected to hand the keys to the offense over to Memphis offensive coordinator Chris Long on a three-year contract, according to Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman.
Long led the Tigers to the 16th-ranked scoring offense in the nation at 38.8 points per game and they were No. 35 in yards per play at 6.3. Long worked as an offensive assistant under Mike Norvell at Arizona State from 2012-15 before following Norvell to Memphis to be the offensive coordinator. He has also held positions at Illinois, Arkansas and Louisville.
Long takes over for Mike Sanford, who left for the Western Kentucky head coaching vacancy earlier this offseason. The Irish finished the 2016 season 44th in yards per play (6.1) and 54th in scoring (30.9 points per game) under Sanford's guidance and will hope to be a bit more explosive and consistent with Long at the helm.
