Updated on Monday at 4 p.m.: Alabama has released a statement announcing that starting guard Alphonse Taylor has been suspended.
"We are very disappointed any time a player makes a choice that leads to this kind of behavior," coach Nick Saban said in a statement. "We are still in the process of gathering all of the details on the situation, but from a football standpoint, Alphonse Taylor has been indefinitely suspended from the team."
Original Story: Alabama starting guard Alphonse Taylor was arrested and charged with driving under the influence early Sunday morning with his bond set at $1,000, according to the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office database.
The star guard, who has been under a weight-loss order from coach Nick Saban, is the second member of the Alabama offensive line to find himself in legal trouble this offseason following star tackle Cam Robinson's arrest. Charges were later dismissed, and Saban has indicated that Robinson is unlikely to be suspended for the team's opener.
Taylor was named Preseason All-SEC second team by the media on Friday and started all 15 games in 2015 at right guard as one of the leaders up front for the dominant Tide rushing attack last season.
