Creighton's Trey Alexander is a likely second-round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, according to most analysts. That suggests the third-year guard has always landed on the list of prospects who could reasonably leave school to pursue a professional career or return for another season of college basketball.
He's no longer planning to return.
"After so much thought and prayer," Alexander posted on Instagram, "I have decided that it is time for me to pursue my lifelong dream of playing in the NBA."
The Omaha World-Herald followed up Alexander's announcement with a report indicating that the 20 year-old is not expected to withdraw from the draft before next month's deadline. Consequently, Alexander has been removed from Creighton's projected roster in Version 14.0 of the 2024-25 CBS Sports preseason Top 25 And 1 college basketball rankings. The Bluejays are down to No. 19.
The loss of Alexander is obviously big. The 6-foot-4 Oklahoma City native averaged 17.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists this season for a Creighton team that secured a No. 3 seed in 2024 NCAA Tournament before losing to Tennessee in the Sweet 16. His departure means the Bluejays are now set to lose three of their top four scorers — but the return of Ryan Kalkbrenner, Steven Ashworth and Mason Miller should still provide Greg McDermott with a solid veteran core heading into his 15th season in Omaha.
The only other development from Saturday that impacted the Top 25 And 1 was UCLA securing a commitment from Dominick Harris, who just averaged 14.3 points at Loyola Marymount while shooting 44.8% from 3-point range on 6.0 attempts per game. UCLA is now up to No. 21 in the Top 25 And 1.
Kansas remains No. 1 thanks to the return of Hunter Dickinson, Dajuan Harris and KJ Adams -- plus the additions of transfers AJ Storr (Wisconsin), Rylan Griffen (Alabama), Riley Kugel (Florida), Zeke Mayo (South Dakota State) and five-star freshman Flory Bidunga. Simply put, the Jayhawks are loaded and have understandably become the favorites in the betting markets to win the 2025 NCAA Tournament. KU is currently +1000 to cut nets next April in San Antonio, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
