Paul Weir has reached an agreement in principle to become New Mexico State's head coach, a source told CBS Sports on Tuesday.
A formal announcement is expected soon.
Weir has spent the past nine seasons helping Marvin Menzies build New Mexico State into a consistent winner. Together, they went 198-111, won three WAC regular-season titles, five WAC Tournament titles, never finished worse than third in the league, and made the NCAA Tournament five times. Menzies left NMSU this month to become UNLV's head coach.
This leaves Northern Colorado and Delaware as the only Division I openings.
