John Stockton is returning to college basketball in an official capacity in 2015-16, accepting a job as an assistant coach for Montana State's women's basketball team.

Stockton has done individual training, coached at the high school level and assisted with several youth teams, but this marks his first official coaching gig at the college or professional level. His daughter, Lindsay Stockton, is a senior on the team.

"Coach [Tricia] Binford called and took a flier asking if I'd be interested," Stockton said. "I'm excited about the prospect of working with the kids. I've enjoyed watching the team over the past three years. I had a chance to be around them and develop relationships during their trip to the Bahamas this spring. It will be a fun group to work with."

The call to Stockton came after assistant coach Kellee Barney announced her exit from the program this week to go into private business with her family. Stockton was an easy call for MSU not only for his family connections but experience coaching Lindsay and sophomore guard Hannah Caudill at Gonzaga Prep.
