Mike Krzyzewski's Friday morning lower-back surgery "went exactly as planned," said Dr. Allan Friedman, who added Duke's Hall of Fame coach is "in terrific physical shape" and that a "full recovery" is expected.
A fragment of a herniated disc was removed.
Krzyzewski is expected to miss four weeks of games.
This surgery comes two days after the eighth-ranked Blue Devils welcomed Grayson Allen back from a one-game suspension and beat Georgia Tech 110-57 to improve to 13-2 overall and 1-1 in the ACC. Next up is Saturday's game against Boston College inside Cameron Indoor Stadium. Associate head coach Jeff Capel will coach Duke in that game and until Krzyzewski returns.
If Krzyzewski misses exactly four weeks, Duke will play seven games without him.

For what it's worth, KenPom projects the Blue Devils as favorites in six of those seven games -- the only exception being the Jan. 14 game at Louisville. Duke's next game after that is its home game Feb. 4 vs. Pittsburgh. The following game is a Feb. 9 home game vs. rival North Carolina.
Krzyzewski's back surgery was discussed earlier this week on the Eye on College Basketball podcast. That conversation starts at the 20:22 mark.
