After the chaos and carnage of Saturday, we had a relatively quiet Sunday, even by Sunday standards. It probably had to do with some other game being played that had everyone's attention.
Still, there were four notable games that had Bracketology implications, one between Top 25 teams and three involving teams on the bubble.
North Carolina hosted Notre Dame in Greensboro, North Carolina after water problems forced the game off of Carolina's campus and postponed it a day. No matter to the Tar Heels, who were 83-76 winners.
The win for UNC, currently a No. 2 seed in the East, adds to a growing resume that has them poised to possibly move up to the top line of the bracket, although they are not quite there yet. The Irish, on the other hand, have lost four in a row and five out of six. There aren't really any bad losses among those, but it has shown that Notre Dame isn't quite in the same class as the top teams in the ACC
As for the bubble teams, their day reminded you of that Clint Eastwood classic "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly."
Let's start with "The good."
Cal, currently in the field as a No. 9 seed in the Midwest, easily handled Colorado at home 77-66. The Bears have now won four in a row and seven out of their last eight, which includes their only notable win at USC. Cal only has four RPI top 100 wins and that one against the Trojans is the only one against a likely tournament team. The Bears have been very good at Haas Pavilion again this year, but they will have to show that they can be road warriors too. They only have two home games left.
Indiana represents "The Bad" on this list. The Hoosiers, a projected No. 11 seed in the Midwest, played Wisconsin tough in Madison and had some chances to steal a much needed win, but couldn't quite pull it off. The Badgers escaped with a 65-60 victory, leaving Indiana at 14-9. The Hoosiers have lost three out of their last four, all on the road, where they are 1-5 overall. That makes this coming week very important for IU. The Hoosiers host Purdue and Michigan and need a sweep. If you can't win on the road, you better take care of business at home.
And finally to "The Ugly." Nobody had an uglier afternoon that Clemson, which lost at Florida State 109-61. Do not adjust your monitor, that is indeed a 48-point loss for the Tigers. Ouch. It is one thing to lose, but another to not even be competitive. Clemson can overcome that. Fortunately for them, it only counts as one loss, but the Tigers dropped one line on the bracket because of it. Clemson, a No. 10 seed in the East, cannot afford too many more days like that one.
