After a suffocating effort in Dallas, the Edmonton Oilers are one win from reaching the Stanley Cup Final. Their 3-1 win over the Stars on Friday night gave them a 3-2 series lead in the Western Conference Final.
Through the first four games, the Stars had done a great job of defending the Oilers' elite power play, but their penalty kill finally flinched in Game 5. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored a pair of power-play goals that wound up being the difference in the game, and Edmonton's penalty kill extended its streak to 25 consecutive kills with two more on Friday.
Oilers defenseman Philip Broberg notched his first playoff goal to give Edmonton a 3-0 lead in the second period, and they protected it very well the rest of the way. Dallas had just 10 shots on goal entering the third period, and Edmonton goaltender Stuart Skinner had a lot of quiet time in his crease.
The Stars had no answers on offense, and the Oilers can win the Western Conference with a Game 6 win in Edmonton on Sunday night.
