  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Receiving Sunday off

Smith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.

Smith started the previous five games and will receive the day off for Sunday's series finale versus Colorado. Austin Barnes will step in behind the plate to catch for righty Gavin Stone.

  • Cubs' Keegan Thompson: Beginning rehab assignment

Thompson (illness) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa on Sunday, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Since Thompson is working his way back from a viral illness rather than a physical injury, he's not expected to require a lengthy rehab assignment before being activated from the 15-day injured list. Prior to being deactivated, Thompson had posted a 4.97 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 19:6 K:BB in 12.2 innings over nine appearances out of the Chicago bullpen.

  • Nick Martini DH | CIN

Reds' Nick Martini: Sitting in second straight game

Martini is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.

The lefty-hitting Martini was out of the lineup for Saturday's 7-5 loss while the Cubs brought southpaw Justin Steele to the hill, but Martini's absence Sunday will come against a right-hander (Ben Brown). Martini looked to have moved back into a strong-side platoon role at designated hitter after recently starting in five straight games, but his spot in the Reds' regular lineup no longer looks to be a given.

  • Alex Young RP | CIN

Reds' Alex Young: Heading to Triple-A

The Reds optioned Young to Triple-A Louisville on Sunday.

He'll give up his spot in the bullpen to fellow lefty Justin Wilson (shoulder), who was reinstated from the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Young has spent most of the season on the IL recovering from a back injury, but after being activated last week, he made three appearances out of the Cincinnati bullpen and gave up four hits and no walks over two scoreless innings.

  • Justin Wilson RP | CIN

Reds' Justin Wilson: Returns from IL

The Reds reinstated Wilson (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Sunday.

After being placed on the IL on May 17 with left shoulder tightness, Wilson didn't require a minor-league rehab assignment prior to being activated, as the Reds were comfortable enough with how he looked over multiple bullpen sessions to bring him back on the 26-man active roster. Southpaw Alex Young was optioned to Triple-A Louisville to make room in the bullpen for WIlson.

  • Giants' Thairo Estrada: Not in Sunday's lineup

Estrada (thumb) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The 28-year-old jammed his thumb Friday against New York and will sit Sunday for the second consecutive contest. Brett Wisely will shift to second base in place of Estrada while Casey Schmitt starts at shortstop.

  • Rockies' Elehuris Montero: Taking seat Sunday

Montero is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports.

Montero started the previous six games but will head to the bench Sunday after batting .167 during that span. Kris Bryant will shift to first base while Bredan Rodgers serves as the designated hitter and Alan Trejo starts at second base.

  • Mike Tauchman RF | CHC

Cubs' Mike Tauchman: Out of Sunday's lineup

Tauchman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.

Tauchman started the previous five games and will take a seat Sunday after he went 5-for-20 with a double, an RBI and three runs during that stretch. Christopher Morel will serve as Chicago's designated hitter Sunday while David Bote starts at third base.

  • Michael Busch 1B | CHC

Cubs' Michael Busch: On bench versus lefty

Busch is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.

It's the third straight game on the bench for the 26-year-old, and this time it comes as lefty Nick Lodolo takes the mound for the Reds. Busch had a hot start to the campaign with a 1.062 OPS in his first 19 contests, but he has a .186/.292/.314 slash line and 38.3 percent strikeout rate in his past 35 games. Patrick Wisdom will start at first base Sunday for the Cubs.

  • Oliver Dunn 3B | MIL

Brewers' Oliver Dunn: No longer starting Sunday

Dunn was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the White Sox.

The 26-year-old was set to receive his first start in a week Sunday, but he'll instead sit as William Contreras and Willy Adames were late additions to the lineup. Joey Ortiz has established himself as Milwaukee's everyday third baseman, so Dunn is unlikely to see much playing time while the infield group remains healthy.
