Tyler Fitzgerald really struggled in 2022 at Double-A Richmond but bounced back in a major way in 2023, slashing an impressive .292/.365/.511 with 22 home runs and 32 stolen bases between Richmond and Triple-A Sacramento. It earned him a late-season cup of coffee with the Giants and the 26-year-old popped two more homers and stole a couple more bases in 10 games. Fitzgerald struck out at a 29.4 percent rate with the big club after fanning at a 28.3 percent rate in the minors, so making contact could be an ongoing issue. He has legitimate pull-side power and stolen-base chops, though, offering some deep-league intrigue should he land a utility job.

  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: Returns to Triple-A

Fitzgerald was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The 26-year-old was originally in the lineup for Sunday's series finale in Texas but will instead lose his place on San Francisco's roster. Fitzgerald has been a solid bench piece for the Giants this season with a .273/.333/.409 slash line in 72 plate appearances, but for now he'll head back to the minors.

  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: Registers steal in win

Fitzgerald went 2-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base in Wednesday's 9-3 win over the Diamondbacks. Fitzgerald is 3-for-11 with two walks over four games since he returned to the big-league roster May 28. The 26-year-old continues to offer utility depth -- he got the start at shortstop Wednesday to give Casey Schmitt a breather. Fitzgerald is slashing .270/.324/.413 with one home run, five steals, four RBI and nine runs scored over 68 plate appearances, but it's unlikely the right-handed hitter sees anything more than a short-side platoon role while in the majors.

  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: Recalled from Triple-A

The Giants recalled Fitzgerald from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Fitzgerald was sent to the minors May 20 following the addition of Ryan McKenna from Baltimore. However, Fitzgerald has gone 11-for-25 with six homers and 13 RBI in just six games since joining Sacramento, so the Giants will bring him back up to the majors and look to take advantage of his hot bat. The 26-year-old owns a .269/.309/.442 slash line in 55 MLB plate appearances this year, and his return will cause the dismissal of McKenna, who was DFA'd in a corresponding move.

  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: Swipes fourth bag

Fitzgerald went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Marlins. Fitzgerald spelled Thairo Estrada at second base for this contest. After an unimpressive start to the season, Fitzgerlad has four steals over his last five games while going 5-for-12 with three extra-base hits in that span. The 26-year-old provides cover around the infield and can also play in center, though the Giants' outfield hasn't varied much this season. Fitzgerald doesn't have an obvious path to playing time in the Giants' righty-heavy infield, so he's likely to remain a utility player unless he commands a larger role with his hitting.

  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: Clubs second homer

Fitzgerald went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Dodgers. Fitzgerald opened the scoring with a third-inning blast off Clayton Kershaw. This was Fitzgerald's second homer and fourth extra-base hit over his first nine big-league games. He's hitting .250 with a 2:8 BB:K and two stolen bases in his brief audition. The versatile 26-year-old could get a long look during spring training in 2024.

  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: Swipes two bags

Fitzgerald went 1-for-3 with a walk, one RBI and two stolen bases in Wednesday's 5-2 extra-inning loss to the Padres. The pair of steals were Fitzgerald's first thefts in the majors. He's hitting .273 (6-for-22) with two walks, one home run, four RBI and two runs scored across his first seven big-league games. He's been a steady presence in center field and should close out the year in a starting role.

  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: Another start in center field

Fitzgerald is starting in center field and batting ninth Friday versus the Dodgers. It's the second straight start in center for Fitzgerald, who hit a double and drew a bases-loaded walk in his major-league debut Thursday at Dodger Stadium. Prior to his promotion to the Giants, the versatile 26-year-old had posted a shiny .292/.365/.511 batting line with 22 homers and 32 steals in 121 games this season between Double-A Richmond and Triple-A Sacramento.
